Well I finally did it. I bought the R-15. You guys had me twisting and turning all sorts of directions. But I went into Wholesell Sports and there she lay. A R-15 with the colaspible stock and 18" barrel. I have to tell you it was the camo finish that sold me. I would like to thank you all for your input during my quest. Thanks to ChrisB and 6x6in6 for willing to help a brother out. ChrisB I still might take you up on building one. When I got the the rifle my boys ( 9&13) were amazed how fast I could field strip it. Some things you just never forget I guess( Thanks to Uncle Sam). Any way I put a Nikon 3to9x40 with the BDC reticle on it. Should be a sweet set up. Thanks again to all who contributed.

Awesome, man. Congratulations - looks like fun!

Good gun. My buddy just purchased the similar set up R-15 with the S.S. barrel in the triangular configuration. He was shooting nickle sized groups at 100 yards with ball ammo. Where did you pick this one up at??

sexy is a good word to discribe that gun right there

You should do a ground up build someday. I have built both of mine and I can't imagine not having done it now. It would just not be the same buying it complete off the shelf. In fact, I still buy and install and add or subtract parts/gadgets on mine. I have a drawer full of grips, mags, sights, etc. that I have toyed with. I also did my own camo jobs on both of them. It is just too much fun. :chuckle:

KillBilly those are sweet rifles. I think I will build my next two. I want to get a couple for my boys just in case someone in DC gets a wild hair again. >:( What size are your scope mounts. I have the medium height ones and I think I need to go to the taller ones. I'm really having to lay the cheek down on the stock to get a clear sight picture.
Bowhunter I got it in .223. I don't reload (yet) and wanted to keep it affordable to shoot.

Great gun. Here is the perfect scope mount for your new rifle. Enjoy it often. :)

I would have to check but I believe they are only about 1/2" . I am not having sight picture problems. And I am not using conventional scopes

Yep. That is the one I was looking at. I think that one will work just fine. ;)
