Are they old or fresh? I imagin them being older when they are shedding the velvate n markin territory. They usually rub august/sept time, i dont see y they would be rubbing this time of the year unless someone else knows y.

Elk will rub from when they are sheding velvet untill they are sheding their antlers, but if you found "a hole hell of a lot" of rubs in a small area they are more than likely from the rut when the bulls are really going nuts......

I've seen fresh rubs this time of year a lot of times, my theory is maby they sense the antler getting ready to fall off or maby it itches and they rub to get them off their head??? Just a thought I've always had.

Here's one of the biggest and coolest I've run across. As you can see by my Rem 700, it's a good one.

with all the wonderfull and funny coments made,, most of the rubs you see are september and october. and yes they do rub a little all year, evan when they dont have antlers but MOST are from the rut.
