Just seeing what everybody thinks
-
Im gonna build one but was curious if you think its too early
-
Might be a good time to build, but would be wasting money and time keeping it full this early in the game. :twocents:
-
Whys that?
-
Because I assume your planning on hunting your bait this upcoming hunting season. From now until June/July is wasting your time and feed in my opinion. I don't think you will gain more deer that you wouldn't eventually have from now until then. :twocents:

Gotcha

Ah, but if he's feeding to enhance antler growth and the well being of the health of the deer in his area, then feeding now or througout the year is a great idea.
Nothing wrong with fortifying the gene pool.

I say never to early. I've got my apples and mineral licks out now and will replenish as the summer goes. Then in the fall, its on.
-
Fatten them up buddy
-
I keep feeders in the woods year round and the deer keep on cleaning it out. I put feed in it once or twice a week. I wonder if they think it is some kind of big black plant that just does not quit growing food. :chuckle:

Never to early ;) get them to pattern your area and it will pay off! plus like said before get protein going into them as soon as possible, ANTLERS  although I have read that it takes a couple years for it to really start working :dunno:
Here is a pic of mine for a idea :)

nice setup 400!
-
Thanks To bad it hold upwards of 400 lbs of feed! Thats get costly fast
-
:o Good gracious how big are you growing them

You can never go to big! :chuckle: Actually the plan for it was in my head and when I mas done and stood it up it was over 7 feet and well, a little over kill :chuckle: and last year I had a sow and her cubs get into it and cleaned out 250 pounds in a little over 1 day :bash: :bash:
$10 roughly for a bag of feed x 10
$100 roughly for fuel!
It adds up quick ;)

shoot I'll say!! Im gonna stick to my $3.50 mineral lick for now lol. I do wanna do a feeder operation though but thats quite an investment on a college budget
-
another good idea and its relatively cheap is frost seeding an area with a wild land seed mix and fertilizing an area with fertilizer.. has great benefits on the deer and elk..80% of the deer food source comes from browse
