Title: Tick Control
Post by: Steve Jo on March 25, 2011, 11:26:12 AM
I've seen this listed on a couple commercial whitetail products.  Like minerals and feed.
Is there anything to it?  If so, is there a cheaper method of accomplishing the same thing?

Just curious, thanks.

I heard that if you mixed Brewers yeast in some food and feed some to the dog it will keep the ticks off you and your dog.

I've heard this stuff works well, though I haven't tried it myself. . .

Unsure how safe it would be for dogs.  It's non-toxic to humans.

I use Frontline for my labs. No fleas or ticks. Once a month for ticks. Once every other month for just fleas. Not sure about anything for humans.

Never thought of the brew being helpfull for ticks.. Maybe it's an old timers trick. No wonder I find so many old beer cans when shed hunting in steep nasty country.. They should have a new brew called Icky Ticky Brew.

i think the beer trick is if you consume enough you wont care about the ticks. I use SAWYER PREMIUM INSECT REPELLENT for your clothes. its a permethrin spray that is odorless & works great. says its effective through 6 washes but i respray after 3 just because i hate ticks. ive tried other clothing treatments but i cant stand the smell & they dont last as long. this sawyer product is not for your skin so read the directions well. ive used this stuff for the last few years & it does work. only problem ive found was with availability, asked sportsmans to order some in 1 year as they were out, tried a different brand that was worthless & when the order came in (6 cans)to the store i bought em all.

Why do you all hate ticks so bad ? I know there gross to have crawling around on you and ive picked them of my lab when they get big and white but why using insect repelnt to keep them off ? if you feel one pick it off you, Just curious  im way more scared of rattle snakes.

why hate ticks? well lets see. first of all the damn things crawl all up under your clothes, in your hair ect & latch onto places where no one wants bugs. then they burrow in and start sucking your lifes blood. second & worst is the ones you dont find end up hitching a ride home with you, drop off your clothes or gear & wait till your unsuspcting wife comes along or maybe they jump across at the first welcome home hug but eather way, well lets just say the rest is not fun so the more spray the better.
