Title: Tucannon lakes?
Post by: KopperBuck on March 25, 2011, 01:25:30 PM
Anyone been hitting them? Going to be in the area this weekend, thought I get a little nostalgic and hit them up. Been about 12 years...

They have been fairly recently stocked, check the wdfw stocking reports. After the fires it looks alot different than it used to

As of two weeks ago they were still frozen over but I expect with the warmer weather we have been having that they have thawed out by now.

12 years...They are not going to be the same as you remember them. The place is quickly becoming dumping grounds for a large number of illegal (possibly legal but don't speak english) immigrant fishermen. It may not be that bad this early in the season but into the summer months it's atrocious. Of course Rainbow stays pretty clean because of how heavily monitored it is but all other lakes start to look like a landfill as the summer starts to heat up.

Catching should be good.
I knew the Tucannon would never be the same after the road from highway 12 to Camp Wooten got paved. Now there is a store and RV parks.

Do you fly fish? Bring your waders and go to Big 4 Lake.
 :twocents:
Very uncrowded and nice and clean but you need your waders. You have to cross the River without a bridge and it's fly fishing only.

Thanks for the info. I've skirted around the area coming back and forth from Spokane, but hadn't been in it yet this year. Definitely brought back a lot of memories - although the landscape has changed due to the fire. We didn't get up there until later in the day Saturday. I think the weather helped clear out the crowds since we saw more people coming out than on the lakes. Spent some time just driving through and stopped for a bit to try to bring a few for the pan. Went pretty quickly.
