I am thinking of buying a SKS from my uncle and want to know a far price. It is still original condition wood stock. He has 7 10 round clips and around 1000 rounds of ammo. He has not named a price just would like to know what to offer him.

Depending on origin and condition, around $200-$500 for the rifle, and 1000 rounds of ammo is worth around $200... retail.
-
So if I offered him $500 do you think that would be fare
-
Their worth is cyclical and depends on election seasons or silly politicians. I'd agree with above that somewhere between 200-300 bucks. Back in the day (early 90's) a hardware store near me would sell SKSs for $59.00, then after the 1994 AWB I would see them for sale for 10 times that amount.

yes

Yugos are running around $300 in unissued condition. I have a Chinese carbine that's worth around $400... I think that I paid around $100 about 20 years ago. Yes, its true that you could get a SKS rifle for next to nothing years ago, but a lot has changed. I bought a Saginaw M-1 Carbine for $190 at a LA gun show about 15 years ago. That same rifle is worth about $800 today.

Maybe a little more than fare, but he's family. ;)

I bought 2 brand new ones at Jake's in Selah for $89 a piece (back in the day). Shot one of them a few times and the other is still in cosmoline. Kinda cool to own, but not worth the inflated prices I see some retailers trying to get. :twocents:

I agree, but its all about supply and demand.
I remember 15-20 years ago, I bought AKs for less than $200, French MAS 36s, Mosin Nagants, British/Ishapore Enfields and German Mausers for less than $100 each. Ahhh, the good 'ole days.

I just sold a Tula Russian unissued 100% numbers matching sks for $400.00. Crappy old yugo's should be had for 150 or so if you look around. Where was the one you are referring to made?

Not sure will have to ask. He just mentioned about selling a few of his guns and the SKS was one of them.
