Title: Skagit Snows
Post by: Smokepole on April 02, 2011, 07:28:20 AM
I'm thinking the geese will soon be moving on & Sunday's weather doesn't look too bad.  Got a new camera, so I might just head down there early Sunday.  Here's a few shots from my latest visit.  Hope U like.

The pics look good.  What type of camera and lense did you end up getting?

Thanks h2ofowlr.  I took these pics with my old Canon Rebel 350d, with a Canon 70-200 f4L lens.  My new camera body is a Canon 50D.  Haven't taken any goose pics with it yet, but I'm sure jons'n to!

Cool photos Kevin! :) The area looks like the Fir Island Preserve. :) I have been meaning to get back down there to take some more photos, but I haven't made it yet. :(

My wife and I might head over to LaConner tomorrow to see if we can shoot some photos of the Wild Turkeys and various other scenic shots. :)

Yep, Fir Island is right.  Hey if you get any turkey shots, let's see 'em.  Tomorrow should be a great day, since the weather is supposed to clear out.  Good luck!

Nope.  We were promised come nice sunny weather that day, but it looked pretty gray from Stanwood.  I have tons of gray day snow goose pics, so I stayed home and sharpened knives all day.  Looking at next weekend.  I like the last day of a storm because the dark clouds up toward 3-Fingers & White Horse makes a good backdrop for the white geese in flight.  Got to have sun on the flats, though.

Did you get out?

That's a lot of geese. If all goes as planned, I'll be up there week after next.

We went to LaConner to get some Turkey Photos, then visited my wife's Brother-in-law in the hospital in Anacortes, then we drove out to Washington Park to get some photos of the bay and of a deer.

Man there was not a shortage of snows this year... they need to make the season longer...all the years hunting on samish island I never seen as many snow geese out there as I have this year and last year there was a 6x6 bull elk off of Avon Allen r.d during bow season which I could of easily taken but I figured it would piss people off if I shot it ... times are changing !!! nice pictures ......

Thanks.  Dang, a 6x6?  I'd like to let the air out of one of those & make some jerky & stix.  Maybe he was afraid of getting poached, so he just went to the flatlands.
