Title: Coffeepot Lake?
Post by: swanny on April 02, 2011, 07:30:25 AM
Anyone fished it before? Have suggestions for what lures to use since it's a selective gear rule lake? My wife and I are thinking we might fish it one morning next weekend since we will be in Lincoln. Probably launch our kayaks in the lake and see what we can catch.

Thanks!

I fished it once, and did not get anything. I never went back. Guess I should give it another try!

This time of year chironomids under an indicator, and maybe dragging a woolybugger, or leach pattern.
There are some monster trout in there. Panfish as well, but I haven't fished for them.

I'd say troll a black or olive wooly bugger in a size 6 or 8 around real slow, or if you want to use lures then try a rapala like was mentioned earlier or a Flatfish and change them to a single hook. Flatfish are by far my favorite trolling lure. Try to find them in a baitfish color of some kind and about 1 1/2" to 2" in length. Troll them SLOOOOOOOOWWW with a piece or two of split shot about 2 feet above them. Same with the flies.

I think you might look the regs over really good because there is a limit over a certain length and sometimes that limit is only 1 fish. Check it out and good luck!

Thanks for all the replies.

We will be in kayaks, so slow trolling is simple enough to do. Plan to hit it Friday morning most likely, I'll report back on any catch.

I have not fished that lake, but done real well on several other "Selective" waters using hardware, large salmon and steelhead spinners and spoons, Brass body with red or orange.

I hear it is the worst lake in the State. Don't go there. Cars left will be broken into and you might get abducted. Kids play banjo's on bridges....... :chuckle:
