Title: gear hoarders!
Post by: Button Nubbs on April 08, 2011, 06:34:43 PM
I honestly think a&e should do a fishing gear episode on me. :chuckle: I just moved and in cleaning my storage unit out and moving all my stuff I realize I have a problem! I literally have garbage bag after duffle bag after back pack after plasitc tote filled with the stuff. I was thinking about getting a whole bunch of smaller plastic totes but wanted to know how all you other gear hoarders organized your stuff.

P.S and no I'm not giving it to you! :chuckle:

Sounds like it is time for a Hunt Wa intervention.  :chuckle: :chuckle:  then of course we can take some items so this does not happen again.

I bought a fancy tackel bag and that has really helped cut down on my clutter. It has 4 locking hard cases in it and tons of extra pockets. Its pretty sweet. Has everything I could need, then I just have a case for my gator gear :IBCOOL: Big rubber tubs stack on top of eachother help to :chuckle:

Like I tell my wife...collecting various gear whether it be fishing, hunting, camping, whatever is a lot better addiction than drugs  :)

Last week went through all of my fishing gear and tackle. First thought was- "Where did all of this crap come from?. I do not remember buying it"

Oh I and I just received the Cabelas and Bass Pro Spring fishing catalogs too. Some nice stuff in there :chuckle:

yeah exactly, my 12x16 shed is half full of duck stuff. and if you fish, there is salmon salt, salmon river, bottom salt, bass, trout, walleye, panfish, etc etc. so many different forms of each types of outdoors in this state. easy to create a pile of gear of time!

I am right there with you.  Geeze.  Cleaned out the garage and have a wall of fishing gear.  Half of it is still in the package.  I had 15 tackle boxes and about 10 rubbermaid container filled to the top with lures.  Didn't know I had such a hording problem with them.  I think I was at about 55 rods. 10 fishing nets.  A few kickers in the garage.  I have about 60 lead molds for everything you need fishing wise.  I have an entire rubbermaid container full of reels and I know I sold about 30 of them over the summer.  Time for a garage sale.

I haven't mentioned all the duck gear.  But that's all I do, waterfowl hunt and fish.

my grandpa solved grannys hoarding problem with laying down the law and restricting her to a single bedroom on the lower level with an out facing window...... when my aunt would come to visit.... hed park a wheelbarrow under said bedroom window and just do as many loads as he could before my aunt would call before comming home with granny.

me on the other hand...... i rent a 50x30 shop and it holds nothing but my 20' fishing boat, all the tools to maintain the boat, deeks, 3 rod racks, a garbage can full of misc. rods, 9 FULL tackle boxes (ranging everyting from vintage gear to striped bass to downrigger tools...) cant forget the huge box of dead reels that you might fix one day..... or might need a part from....

When I find out I have to much gear I try and find a place to fish that has a lot of snags and big fish. I don't mind losing gear if the fish are hitting. Once I even broke 2 rods on the same day. One because the fish that hit the line was to big for the rod ( it was wham and crack) . The other rod I broke shutting the trunk on the tip (ouch). I have found that the best way to get rid of gear is to feel generous and give away as much as possible before I start looking to hard at what I have.
