That's a great pic of your dog! way cool

Not sure I've submitted any pictures for the contest lately. Here are my WA submissions:
For those of you that fish LaPush, this should look familiar. I shot this last weekend on Rialto Beach in Olympic National Park at about 9:45 PM after the sun had set for about 30 minutes. There was an amazing afterglow and I shot this picture at like 30 seconds to mist the crashing waves.
Just a no name waterfall near Lake Quinalt in Olympic National Park. A 2 second exposure misted the water movement and created my wife's favorite shot of the weekend. I personally like the above Rialto Beach shot, but she remembers being cold and wet and not having fun for me forcing her to sit there a half hour after the sun set to get the perfect shot...

-
Very nice Shawn, what were the other settings on the camera, if you don't mind.
-
Err... exif will show them better than I can remember. I did use a polarizer on both shots which helped quite a bit.

There are some awesome photo's... I'll submit mine, but is no where near the top class here.
This is a pic of my 3 year old lab "Tank"

i vote for this one
-
All good photos...but i vote for this one too...
-
Looks like some tough competition and it has not been a week yet.
-
Thats Bunch Creek Pope! Awesome shot. Probably the most photo'd spot in the Q vally. Sometimes you have to wait in line with the tripod people.
-
Man, I almost drove right by it. If my wife didn't have to do a "nature walk" I probably would have just drove by it...lol.
-
as always....just playin

That's nice for ISO 800 and no IS shot at 1/400th of a second. It's nice that you stopped down a half a stop as that improves the lens performance greatly. I love chukar.
-
It was probably just by accident, I still don't know what the heck I am doing. I took the canon to the snake pit yesterday....thats probably what jinxed me. My goal is an action shot striking, an eyeball- pit viper shot , and maybe a good buzz (blurred). I was interested in the bright bright sun and rocks and how that was going to effect my shot. I'm shooting in RAW now thanks to Rob(huntnphool)and a nice gift. That helps immensly with whitebalance as you know. I was curious how I could slow it down to get the buzz yet it being so bright. Also wondered what it would be like dangling from those rocks, with a 12 pound lens instead of what I was using. :)

Here's a deer that hung around while we were trying to call in a bobcat or coyote last year? Deer didn't mind any sounds until we howled. Didn't like that at all. Also got it on video.

-
Here are a couple from last weeks float/hike in the Grand Canyon. #1 of the 7 wonders of the world. Truly an amazing place!!
-
This is my favorite grouse capture, taken almost a year ago. Best time for grouse photos is the next coupla weeks, while the hens like to lay on the side of gravel roads guarding their chicks.

Excellent photo.
-
got the bird man excited! Nice one.
-
Here is my first entry. I have had it on the website before, hope that's not taboo (this is my first POTM entry.)
Enjoy:

Is anyone having trouble seeing this one?
-
Nope, not taboo unless it was entered into another photo of the month contest. All I see is a red x though, so we might have a problem.

I've had this problem before, I can see it just fine, any idea what I have to do to fix it?
-
i see it just fine
-
not sure how to asnwer that. I see all the other pics fine. I can promise you that from this judges stadnpoint the grouse pic looks better than the red X. I have no idea what is going on though. Who is the hosting site for the picture? We had trouble with hunt 101 from this weekend.
-
Wow, just when I think I have a chance to win it you have to go and post a picture like that Javman? I think last time I had a chance to win it another grouse picture beat me out. Maybe I need to go shoot some grouse pictures...
-
snakes not grouse. ;)
-
To make matters worse, Javman shoots with Nikon...
-
Hey shane your picture shows up for me now :dunno:
Yeah, those Nikon guys. ;) Maybe I will do better for the Canon team when I start using some of that expensive glass.
-
The L does stand for Luxury... ;)
-
I give... I went ahead and removed my pic... no way I'd ever stand a chance against these awsome pic's. Don't have the equipment ya'll have, so I'll just have to sit back and droole.
-
Here is one of the best I got. I am very limited in my skills but I am trying to learn.

Keep it up Wayne. It's not about winning the contest. Heck, I've never won it but still have fun posting. If I didn't show my work here they would just sit in boxes or lost on my hard drives. Nobody gets enjoyment from that.
-
LOL I'd have to disagree.. Think that when folk's submit a picture in a photo contest, they'd like to come in first. If they just wanted to post a pic so it won't collect dust.. they'd put it on one of the Photography thread's. I really enjoy seeing all the Photo's that are being submitted, just did'nt want to embaress myself with my spur of the moment shot's I took with a 5 pic digital. I appricate the effort you people put in to such wounderfull photo's. :)
-
Wayne, PLEASE don't think that. Do you think I post so many pics on here because I think they are that good. There are alot of better ones on here. I know how much I enjoy seeing everyone elses, so I assume someone might enjoy mine. Please post them up.
-
besides the fact, that was a COOL action shot!
-
Here's one from the back yard.
-
here's a couple from last year
-
Heck, I want to go shoot Chukar's back yard...looks like a birder paradise.
-
Only when the dogs are in the house :)
-
Awesome stuff. Pasco, make sure you noted that velvet is the category for August if these are your Fave velvet shots. If you plan to get more cool, or if you have more, even better.
-
So it took a lot of deliberating but I finally chose my second POTM picture.
This picture definitely requires an explanation. As some of you may remember, one of my friends went missing while climbing Mt. Baker last month. He is now in heaven with our Lord and as we mourn his life, we also celebrate in his triumph achieved through death.
This picture is from the very first backpacking trip I took with him. At the time I was a freshman in high school and he was a new and young teacher. Our school had en event called Outside the Walls where groups of students would get to go participate in all different activities ranging from sewing and dancing classes, to mountain biking, to backpacking (which is what I chose.) Kevin was the teacher supervisor for the backpacking trip and he took us up to Winchester Peak above Twin Lakes. But we unexpectedly got about 4 feet of snow up in the mountains that week and none of us were prepared for it. We started hiking about an hour before dark and didn't get to the lookout until about 11 p.m. with many inexperienced hikers. No one had snow shoes, many of us were wearing jeans and running shoes. It was an interesting experience to say the least. Ironically, the young woman on the left just so happens to be my future-to-be.
I know this picture isn't necessarily the best picture ever taken, but I felt it fitting to honor someone like Kevin who absolutely loved the outdoors in the POTM contest with now guidelines. (BTW Kevin is the character crouched in the center, I am the one taking the picture.)
Enjoy:

That Grouse is perfect! Awesome shot!
-
My second...
-
I will throw these two in the hat...although, they dont compare to most pics here... ;)
Cheers~!
-
dang theres some good ones on this month. maybe putting the requirements on the pics for a few months made people hold back on some good ones.

Cool picture Shane. I had the pleasure of meeting Kevin a few years back, he was a great guy. By the way, I'm an LC grad myself.

Nice to meet another LC student on here! I don't know many people from your era. My parents graduated a decade before you and my brother a good 6 or 7 years after you.

Here is one entry so far...more to come.

I love this thread, good variety and some outstanding pics.
-
This picking a winner is getting harder and harder every time. All the photos are really great.
-
yep, this is going to be one of our closest. Some very technical correct photos and some emotional ones. Good work guys. Discussion has begun, so if you are thinking about getting one in here, you may want to do it.
-
CONGRATULATIONS Hunting Cowboy. Your shot had enough umpfff to pull it out. There were some great shots this month. Some were basically flawless. I think the raw emotional impact of Cowboys shot is what put it over the top. Thanks for all of the great pics everyone.
-
Wow! I have to say that I am surpised given the quality and variety of so many of the entries. Thank you. You've made my day.
-
Congratulations Hunting Cowboy! Nice photo! I'll have to buy a quality camera so I can share my adventures with everyone. :)
