20 million trout stocked in local lakes this year! Can this be true? That's a ton of fish! How in earth can wdfw afford to do this?

When fishing liscenses over $80 a piece for everything, they better show us something,,lol besides more money to pay.

I thought they were broke.. they musta got a loan and are depending on all of us to buy this years fishing liscence then :dunno: 20 million trout would cost more than $20 million to raise you'd thunk?

No i dont 'think 20 million trout would cost anywhere near $20 million. they are damn near all from the same gene pool and mass produced in a hatchery.
I've done a lot of aquarium work and once you get organized you can produce a lot of fish.

I do a lot of C&R for wild fish, bass, etc. But the stockers come home and get promptly cooked. I see that as an ROI for the $200 I just spent on licenses last week.

all those stocker trout bring people out of the woodwork to buy fishing licenses. they're actually one of the more sustainable hatchery programs our state has.

i try to catch and release as many as possible hopin for a hold over!

I suppose most of the licenses sold go to guys that only fish the big opener and that's it they're done for the whole year..ha ha

On a side note, I know a lot of people stick their nose up at stocker rainbow meat, but I cooked up a bunch Tuesday night and brought in the extra weds. Everyone at work liked it so much they wanted directions to the lake, lol.
