Title: Turkey Spurs
Post by: JKEEN33 on April 19, 2011, 05:09:56 PM
I've never kept any of the spurs off of my birds in the past. My dad got a set about an inch long this year and I am wanting to do his tail, beard and spurs for him. What do I need to do to cure the spurs?

What I have done is just clean them the best you can, and then boil them for just a min to loosen what you cant scrape off. Finish cleaning them with a little brush, and I put clear nail polish on them to bring out the natural color.  You can also put the date on them with a fine sharpy and cover with clear polish after it dries.

I just throw them in the shop. They dry out, then cut on both side of the spur, clean out the hole and your good to go.

Yeah I am with Ben on this one .. you can cut them off and let dry or cut the leg off and let the whole thing dry....they will just dry out and thats it ...
