Anybody shoot them out of handguns? How loud? Looking for pest control options, 'coons, possums...I'd be happy with an Airsoft if I thought it would sting enough. Don't really want to drop $150 on a quality Air gun but I could for a .22 and get more use from it.

Try the subsonic - then google how to make a pringle can silencer. Will suffice for urban pest control..
-
I don't know how loud they are out of a pistol, but I shoot sub-sonic .22 shorts and longs out of my bolt action .22, and they aren't nearly as loud as my .177 air gun. all they make is a "snap!".

Buy some of these. Probably as quiet as you'll find.

I've ran them through a .22 rifle and they're quieter than a Crosman air rifle.
They work great on Opossums. They take a step or two and keel over.

Stop by my house Mike, I'll give you a handful of really quiet 22's if you need some or you can go get some 22 shorts, they are the quietest and will still do the job out to 15-20 yards pretty handily on the the usual pests.

cb longs by cci great medicine for possems in the calf barn eating the cats food.

In my experience, the subsonic rounds like CB longs and shorts are quite a bit louder out of a pistol. They also do not develop their already minimal energy. I shot a coon five times in the head from point blank with CB shorts out of an old snub-nosed pistol, they just flattened and did not penetrate, the sixth shot I just shot it through the lungs. Out of a rifle, they are awesome!

subsonic .22's and shorts out of my mark III are pretty loud actually, out of my rifle they are substantially quieter. Out of the rifle I would say half as loud as a regular .22LR?? The crack a .22LR has is basically gone.
-
For where I need to do this a rifle is not an option. I may settle for a budget Co2 pistol.

I have shot the cb caps from the tiniest of 22 semi's for taking care of "issues".....and they werent too terribly loud. They definitely resolved the "issue"

yep yep CB longs are the ticket and they sound like a pellet gun when you shoot them out of a 22 rifle
-
cb's or Aguila SSS would be my choice but I doubt you could run them out of an autoloader.
Revo, no problem.

These work great out of my long barreled .22 bolt action. Same loudness as my air rifle. These are easy to feed. I would go this route. Any of the subsonics will have a louder report out of a pistol due to the short barrel length unless you are using a suppressor.

These are great. They do work better out of a rifle but I also shoot them out my 22/45. They are very accurate and have plenty of energy for vermin control.

out of a pistol they are still kind of loud, I think you might need a can of sorts in your doing urban work and you cant use a short barrel rifle. :twocents:
