Title: Close Encounter
Post by: Decker on April 22, 2011, 06:07:37 PM
Had a big boy at 40 yards in the brush, couldn't get a shot with the bow and let him walk. Partner had to get back home this afternoon. Heading back out for afternoon and tomorrow. Notice scat diameter is same size as Tru-Glow 7 pin sight.

Other than that, called in longbeard for parter and he missed shot with his Hoyt at 10 yards, DOH!

Good luck everyone.

Why? Still too early? I'm hoping they're out but thinking it may be a bit early.

Looks like decker was hunting low or southern exposure somewhere, the last pics in this thread were taken this morning in the mountains near colville:  http://hunting-washington.com/smf/index.php/topic,74989.0.html (http://hunting-washington.com/smf/index.php/topic,74989.0.html)

The elevation isn't real high where I'm going and when I was up there a couple weeks ago it was mostly melted just some of the shady spots in the roads were snowed in. Hope I can get through tomorrow.

Southern exposure medium elevation. But Gutpile is pretty spot on, only the highest hills and northsides have any snow. The grass where I'm at is 6-7 inches in places. Spending most of yesterday in a tent with snow and rain all day, I was sure glad to get out in a little warmth...maybe the bears are as well?

I think my resize cut part of the pic off so I'm reposting it. (Can't tell on my Droid, and I'm sitting in my pickup cooking a Mountain House in the hills; too expensive to drive home.)

Can anyone tell me...are spring bears as active in the morning as fall bears, or do they wait for the heat to come on?

Glad you are using your bow.

They are starting to get out in the NE corner.  Saw the arse end of a nice one.  He wasn't being very photogenic.
