This question is for those who have always wanted a blue mountain elk tag like myself. There are some new choices this year in the quality elk tag. I have always put in for the muzzy tag but now with the multi season tag in my pocket I can put in for the Sept. rifle or the new grande ronde tag. My head is spinning just thinking which two choices to put in for. Thanks, and happy Easter.

what ever one you think is your best chance of getting drawn.good luck . im adding another piont to my qaulity bull. will be sitting on 25 points .put in for bull hunt with my son between us we have 31 points. keeping our fingers crossed.
-
Dude not to be negitive but why do you have so many points... I do not understand .. they need to change there sh-- ! after 15 or 20 pts it should be a guaranteed tag ..thats ridiculous ... I drew a special tag in 08 with 0 points so I have no faith in it ..plus my one boy has 9 for pearigin and still no tag ... :bash:
-
I MEAN SON !!!!!! 31 PTS This system seriously sucks !!!!!!

Your points average out, not add up. I think

I don't just want the best chance at drawing, I want the best tag that gives you the best oppertunity to kill a 350+ bull. You guys should have a decent chance but with this system who knows, are you the guy that was hunting with his son in the dayton with muzzy about 3 years ago?
-
-Keep the Muzzy hunts on the downlown please! thanks
-
oops your right I shouldn't metion the muzzy hunts in the COLOCKUM. Sorry, it's just that the muzzy COLOCKUM hunts are sooooo sweet.
-
There ya go :chuckle:
-
I know what i would do... I would put in for Toutle, or margaret rut hunts...
Biggest bulls in the state... LOL...
-
FOR SURE .. Thats how it should be .. a chance to take a record book bull... I just got pure ass lucky when I drew and had a chance at a true 9x9 with drop tins and ended up killing this bull which beat the 9x9 butt and took the herd from him and then walked right to me after the fight ...it was crazy.and I DO NOT CARE IF I EVER kill another one ... I lied !!!hahaha 349 1/8 pope & young

I would go for the blues or one of the rut hunts in the Yakima area or the Clockum Units. Pretty bad odds with only 1 permit for each unit. Those rut hunts would be fun.

As far as I understand it, you will be applying with 15 points, or if you are not counting this year, 16 points for group (2 hunters) application, with your combined 25+6=31
-
It depends how old you are. How long do you have left to live? If you want to draw before you die, apply for the easier to draw permit. Go for the muzzleloader permit. Much better odds than the rifle. A muzzleloader permit is a lot better than no permit at all. And even with 16 points, your chances of drawing a rifle permit in the Blues is very, very low.
-
Do a muzzle loader hunt can hit the end of the rut. Call Norsepeak on here and book a hunt with him.

Bowhunter45 that has got to be the biggest Margaret Bull Ive ever seen!!!

I'm 41 and have done pretty well hunting elk in the past. I don't have the extra cash and feel I can give myself a pretty good chance at an oppertunity if I can draw the tag. So no guided hunts for me, but I would love to be packed in a few miles by a guide. I know i'm getting ahead of myself, got to draw first.
-
Ya and remember, Theres lots of us with 16points so I wouldnt be booking your Hunt just yet! :chuckle:
-
choose wisely, I think its probably more of getting drawn for a tag and putting your time in than picking the right unit, especially in teh blues, I think most units down there have 350 potential. Heck even colockum and the yakima units have there share of 350 bulls. Study the odds and pick the unit/hunt with the best chance of getting drawn and go smoke a monster.
-
I just wish I had your problem. I have 14 points, but no multi-season, so here is another year of building points :(
-
Ya Brent im in the same boat :( But hey, who says you need a Permit to smoke a monster ;)
-
All the Blues units have 350 plus bulls in them no doubt and all are hard to draw. Every year someone draws the Blues having never been there but has heard the big bull stories then they go look at what they are in for and say holy crap its steep or there are no roads in the wenaha etc. and then their hunt takes on a totally different agenda. Example I have guided 2 hunters in the Blues backcountry who were experienced hunters who had never been on a guided hunt but because they had nobody who would go with them and they needed to be packed in on animals to really be able to do the hunt it forced them to spend some money. If you don't have your own stock or the money to hire a packer the east wenaha is very tough as is the wilderness parts of the tucannon and west wenaha.Make sure how you like to hunt and what kind of country you are capable hunting/hiking and who you have to go with you is part of your draw selection.nwhunter

Great advise guys, I definitely have some thinking to do. Being packed in sounds like something I would love to experience!
