Title: Daughters First rifle
Post by: coyotewallace on April 24, 2011, 03:24:50 PM
Well I couldn't take it no longer. So I went ahead and let the daughter have her first rifle today. I was going to wait til she gets through her hunters education class in Aug. but it was burning a hole in my pocket so to speak..
Well here she is and here is what she got.
Browning X-Bolt Micro Midas chambered in 7-08Rem. it sports the Leupold FX-11 6x36mm matte finish, wide duplex and Talley light weight rings

Nice rifle, she looks pretty happy.  Oh, also love the mismatched socks!  :chuckle:  She'll have all summer to target practice now.

Nice gun, my daughter shot her first deer last season with a 25.06. One thing I practiced with her while we weren't at the range was to get a BB gun with a scope on it, then have a target in the yard and have her find it in the scope as quick as she can.  The first time she had an opportunity in the field to shoot a nice 2 pt, she couldn't find the deer in the scope. That gave me the idea with practicing with the BB gun. Good luck on your course.

You or they will never forget there first gun.

With my son, he wanted a bow, so we bought him a Reflex bow for Christmas, and my daughter got her first gun the following year for her birthday. We got her a New England Arms .270. She loves and still braggs about it and its been a few years  :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

Fantastic...  I can remember my first rifle.  So does my son.  I like the idea of helping with the reloading.  My son can reload all his weapons.  We had lots of conversations during the entire process.

Great job Dad

I am in the market for my 9 year old.  I was going another route but I like the wood stock of this Browning, the other one I was leaning towards is synthetic (Weatherby) which is a downside in my opinion.  What price are these Brownings selling for?  Nice setup.

Thanks for all the responses...We really enjoy this forum!
dscubame-price on the rifle OTD was 761.00. I did find it a few dollars cheaper but those were a special order and they had no idea when it would be avl.
this is one slick little setup. IMO the best of the youth factory rifles out. fit and finish are perfect!
The X-bolt Micro Midas is also offered in
22-250,243,308

I hope it likes the Barnes 120g. TTSX's... thats what we are going to load for hunting rounds,
right now for trigger time I have some Speer Hot Core 130g. and we may even stick with these for this falls deer hunting.

We shoot silver box Winchester (cheapest) in both and it's really accurate.

My daughters (5 and 8yrs old  ) both have been shooting longbows (12# and 18#) at 3D shoots, but my oldest, who is studying for the safety class, keeps eyeballing that pink "cricket" .22 in Walmart, so I plan on getting that one for her soon.
