Anyone fish the river below Ice Harbor dam? I was trying to make plans for a trip here soon but the numbers are still low and I'm affraid that if I go too high too soon it's going to be a waste of time. Any good places to camp and or launch on the lower stretch? What about bank fishing?

been thinking the same thing i might go sit on anchor tommorow and put in a couple hours, the numbers are low like you said but i figure put in a few hours and go chase walleye if nothing else happens
-
That was the other thing I was thinking. If nothing else I can go find some smallies to keep me occupied. I planned a 3 day weekend last year for springers and the day I planned on going I luckily checked the emergency regs online and found out they were closing it early, on what would have been the first day of my trip. Kinda put a kink in my plans.

did not make it out today talked to a gamie this morning he said people are fishing it but nobody's catching less than a hundred a day starting to go through i will be there next weekend so if you guys see a five hundred dollar boat with a brand new 3,000 dollar kicker thats me

As for camping, there are a lot of options. Hood Park on the Walla Walla county side, Sacajawea Park on the Franklin county side, and Three Rivers Park in Finley on the Benton county side. All three are in the vicinity of the mouth of the Snake river.

there is no camping at either of these parks and the the finley one is two rivers and Sacajawea has a fee to launch there. there is a campground a few miles down hwy 12 though at madame dorion park witch sits at the mouth of the walla walla river

Both of these are not below the dam but not too far above.

i don't think the corp of engineering parks are open yet but i could be wrong they close them in the winter, but you can launch at hood park free, there is arrowhead rv park by northwest jet in pasco that puts you only a few miles away.
-
According to the website Charbonneau Park opened 1 May. Fishhook opens 20 May.

Thanks guys. The numbers are starting to climb. I'm hoping to see the numbers up enough to go next weekend. If not I will be there the next weekend.

hatchery clipped only was the rule last year is it the same this year?
-
went out for the first time today.got one to the boat went to get the net.I vacumed out the boat yesterday yep you guessed it forgot to put net back in so i messed with it and it came unhooked,so i thought i would stay and fish a little longer hooked another [big bright one]same deal.ever try and land a salmon by yourself in a boat without a net.but on the flip side they both were wild fish and not a bad time for first day out.did not try my luck any longer and made it home at noon.i did get them on the flip video,so my agenda is shower, gym, sleep.and be ready in the morning.i did not see any others caught, there was about 20 boats out there, this weekend will be a zoo if the weather is nice.if you guys see and older brown and white crestliner w/115 merc.&9.9 yamaha give me a shout and i'll show you what i was using.i was not using drop weights.i'll go pick up a couple more of those lures so i might share with if there hot again

Yes it is the same, only hatchery clipped fish. I will be down there thursday, friday, and probably most of saturday to try to catch a few fish. Worst case scenario is it's a weekend away from work. Fish or no fish that sounds like a good weekend to me!

Oh, I'll be fishing up by little goose though. Anyone know if Riparia actually has a launch and is it worth using or should I not waste time with that and just go to the other side of the river to the texas rapids launch?
-
Talked to the Corps of Engineers office today and was told there is at least a launch there so I'll give her a whirl at least.
-
my wife's little brother caught 2 this weekend. one on saturday and one on sunday
this was on the downstream side of ice harbor dam
-
Just heard that they are closing it early. Below ice harbor will be closed after friday and the other two sections will be closed after sunday. They say there is a possibility that it will re open though.
