Not really a fishing topic.
Anyone ever get a hook through the thumb or other bodily parts?
Caught a 1 pound small mouth today and he shook just as I reached in for his lip.
here is the result:

Could not get the barb out, of course (did not even try) so had to push the hook all the way through:

Then snipped it off, below the barb with my pliers, and then pulled the hook back out.
First for me but I suppose that if you fish long enough, stuff like this happens, lol.
I commend myself for having the foresight to take pictures so I could show everyone how stupid I was, haha.
FISH ON!

The pics make me cringe! My wife was sitting in the front of the canoe when she hooked me in the side when she swung back to cast, she gave it a good jerk before I wound my hand in the line and took the tension off and told her to quit pulling. That cost me about 10 mins. of quality fishing time.
-
Did this to my little brother once. I told him multiple times not to walk behind me when I was casting. The bank was very narrow and he was new. 1st time I caught him in the sweatshirt hood. The second time was his eyebrow. Had to hold him down and yank it all the way through. Then cut it off and pulled it back out.
Little brother will fish out of the boat but isn't much on fishing from the bank anymore.
Wussie!

Had one do the same thing, close to the boat, had some good tension on the line, it hit my right sunglass lens! Had just put them on 10 min before it happend.
I always wear my sunglasses now!

Twenty yrs ago fishing buoy 10, fishing was hot for silvers. I reached down to take the hooks out of a fish, ended up with a hook through my thumb. Raced to the docks at Illwaco, ran up to the local hardware store ask one of the employees for some sidecuts and cut the hook and pulled it through. Then stopped at the drug store got a bottle of hydrogen peroxide and cleaned the wound. Race back to the boat went back out and limited on silvers. Hardware employee thought we were crazy.

I have never been hooked bad like that but had a few stick. You did the smart thing. If you can always push them threw and cut them off.

Not always. I still have one buried right above my knee from 20 years ago.

Oh, I forgot, I did carry on with my day. After my set back I got back to fishing. About an hour later I got a 3.1 pound largemouth, and that was all the fish that I caught. A smallmouth, a largemouth and a loud mouth:) (or at least the loud mouth's thumb)

Well my sister when we were little managed to hook her own ass :yike: was damn funny :chuckle: :chuckle:

Last summer had a stinking little sheepshead in WI do that to me. Tried and tried to push it through but it wouldn't budge. Luckily got to the hospital during "urgent care" hours. The doc had to slice the skin to push it through. :yike:
This is just one side of the treble hook. Of course my parents did not have a nice sidecutter to snip the hook off and had to use a pliers that I was barely able to get between the lure and my thumb.

Oh, ouch! That one had to hurt!

So here is a pic of my hooked thumb from 2 years ago on the skagit. Damn Humpy started flopping as soon as I had my hand near its mouth and just buried the hook. Hook in my thumb with a bad hangover that morning..... BAD COMBO!!! To top it off the next morning I stuck a 2o Treble hook in the palm of my hand and I mean stuck, not a chance of rolling it through. We had to pull that thing straight back out. My buddy hangs his spinners on the side rails of his sled and I apparently put my hand down in the wrong spot :bdid:. I don't have any pics of the treble hook. Needless to say being hooked for the second time in one weekend I was PISSED!

A couple years ago my son and i were fishing on back arm of Alder lake when I hooked a beautiful 21 inch Kokanee. I got the fish in the boat and grabbed it with both hands. I was using a Double Whammy with two new Gammagatsu hooks. The top hook was loose and as the fish shook embedded itself into thumb. At first I was not concerned at all, I had my left thumb stuck and the fish in my right hand. Then I realized I can't set this bad boy down! Then the fish really started to shake and I could feel the hook going deeper like it was going through butter. I started yelling for my son that was sitting in the bow to come back and grab the pliers when the fish gave a big shake and agony ensued! The barb came right through my thumb nail. I thought I was going to black out, lol. I had to calm myself and convince my son to come over and cut the top hook line so I could drop the fish, then clip the barb off so I could pull it back out. He tried about four times before he Finlay was able to cut it. I was then able to pull the hook back out in one huge pull. That sucker hurt like heck and bleed like a stuck pig. I had blood all over me and the boat. The funny part is I use to check how sharp my hooks are by sliding them across my thumbnail. I would have never thought they could go through a thumbnail that easily.

been there and done tjat a few times .had a D octer show me how to remove a hook .it herts but when the hook is out it feels much better .push down on the hook so the barb will clear and roll the hook back out.
-
I landed a 20 pound lingcod and saw my hook down in his mouth and it looked like I could reach in real careful and slip it out. Just got a grip on the hook when he snapped his mouth shut and started rolling over and over with my fingers in there. Will not do that ever again.

Easy to say.... I tried everywhich way, pliers and all to pull that hook back out of my thumb. I even tried pushing it through. After numbing it, the doctor straitened that hook out trying to push it though, finally had to make an incision above it to get it through. It all depends where it is. That spot in my thumb was really tough.

12/0 Gami J-hook straight into the left bicep. I ran a charter boat out of Sitka for 5 years and this was my only incident! Went to shake a little ping pong paddle halibut and the guy decided to lift it out of the water just as i reached for the leader. Needless to say the fish flopped and 24 oz. of lead propelled that hook through a brand new Grundens raincoat, fleece, and smartwool base layer. We finished fishing, caught this big girl and headed for home. Couple hours later at the hospital, they made an incision and worked the point out, but didn't have anything heavy duty enough to cut it. They called the maintenance guy up and in walks this guy in greasy coveralls with some bolt cutters! The surgeon holds my arm still while the maintenance guy cuts it and the hook point rockets up and hits the surgeon in the soft spot right under the eye slicing him open! He had to get 2 stitches and i had to get 4. it was a great day!

Ow! I might almost be willing to take another hook if I could catch one like that! :yike:

I've never hooked myself but I hooked my good friend and fishing partner once while out fishing for silvers. I landed a decent enough fish and as my buddy reached down to grab it the hook dislodged and rocketed into my friends hand. We were barbless but the damn thing buried itself into his knuckle! I grabbed my silver in one hand, my buddy in the other (He was about to pass out from the pain at this point) and headed for the truck. Just as I arrived at my truck another buddy of mine arrived to join us. He stepped out of his truck and asked "Did you guys limit out already?!" I said "Yup, sure did....this silver and this sucker" as I held up my buddy's hand and the silver I landed at the same time....LOL.
This was 15 years ago and he still flips me crap for that!

Dang that's a monster fish.
