I was out hunting last year in the Okanogan NF and only saw a doe. I was just off the 40 road I believe. Is this a good area to hunt? I plan on taking my nephew out for his first deer hunt this year and I need to find a good place to take him. Any info would be great.

Where is the 40 road and what kind of deer do you want to shoot?
-
I have to look on the map for the road and I am up for any deer. I am not picky....
-
What was the nearest town?
-
I remember we were off the 20 and I think the nearest town was winthrop...
-
If ya are near winthorp and the nephew is young enough put him for the youth doe tag there. Up the chewauck is good there to. Alot of good ares by winthorp. Up wolf crk is good out by paterson mt..

Thanks for the info. Hopefully I can get out more this year before the season starts to do some scouting....

Your in a good area, just get away from the roads and you should do fine.

x2 Learned how to hunt inbetween all the whohas and should be good. Got my first muley over there as the rest of the tards headed back to camp for lunch I went and shot a dandy there. Biggest body muley I ever seen. Caught him laying behind a downed log 150 yards off the road. I was above him and he didn't know which way to till I shot him, then he went down and expired in the middle of the main road going up. Kinda cool didn't have to drag him far.LOL If my son passes his hunters ed class we will be heading over there. Love the country over.

My huntin bud has a house there. His wifes family grew up there through the 50s 60s 70s so we have some pretty remote and secluded areas to hunt that her grand dad and friends used to pack into. He went scouting last year and saw alot of good things. Im really looking forward to it. We normally chase blacktails and a couple years ago found a whitetail honey hole by accident so we have been going back there since.

Well I hope my nephew passes his hunter's safety course and then we will be going up there. if he does not then I will still go. Although I was thinking of trying my luck near spokane. I found a really nice whitetail shed. 5 points and one tine was around 9-10 inches long.

got a pic of that shed?

Unfortunately no. Maybe I can track it down this year and show the whole deer.

I agree with Snowman, a youth doe tag in any area around Twisp or Winthrop is a no brainer.
