Title: Those .22 CB Longs sure are quiet
Post by: MP123 on May 04, 2011, 08:52:14 AM
They sound about like a Red Ryder BB gun.

Has anyone tried hunting with them?  I'm thinking of maybe real stealthy grouse hunting.  They seem quiet enough to not scare any hikers that might be around just not sure if they'll get the job done?  I'm talking really close range, nothing too crazy...

They are great for shootin raccoons off of the porch.

I use them on the whistle pigs, ( ground squirrels ) around the house and work good.

 :yeah:

Good for whacking the starlings off the birdfeeder as well.   :chuckle:

Have had those flatten out on the skull of a coon at point blank range, though it was out of a handgun with about an inch and a half barrel.

Anyone ever used them for grouse? I have shot coons with them and one thing I will say is that they seem to riqocet more than the average 22 round. I'd like to use them for grouse if someone has experience with them.

Great!  Thanks guys!

I was afraid 29 grains at 710fps would only be good for punching paper but it sounds like they'll work out pretty well on small game up close and quiet.

Only problem is now I'm wanting a supressor!  :chuckle:

I've used the CCI CB caps for decades!  Man are they quiet out of a rifle.  I use them to kill crows with and they usually hit the ground at the shot.  But with no noise, others see their buddy hit the ground and they start swooping in to try and help him.

Carnage usually follows...... :chuckle:

I did not get good results with those on raccoons.  I want them DRT (dead right there).  With CB's, some escaped the yard, even after a couple shots.  I changed to the Aguila sub sonic.  Done deal, only a little louder, full weight bullet.  The Aguila SSS (sub sonic sniper) has a 60 gr bullet, but couldn't group from my rifle.

My buddy and I were shooting those out of a ruger single six a couple months back. Accurate enough for a pistol definitely and only a little louder than a C02 air gun.

Who makes that? I'm looking for something like that. I walk through an alley by my work and there are some REALLY aggressive crows that will peck at your bag if you are carrying food. I think someone needs to teach them a lesson.

I have a few bricks of them.  I use them to control the starlings.  I love shooting them.  Very quite.
