Being an impatient person, I'm having a bit of heartache. My cam and bait station has been set up for 1 week now. Went back to pull the memory card last night and had 1400 pics and 0 animals. Only moving brush. When we set it up, there was freshish sign. Not that day fresh but not old either. How long til the deer find it?
-
i try every week on the same day maybe every two if i can
-
What kind of trail camera. If its a Bushnell the setting might be too sensitive. Good thing to do is clear the brush so you don't have these misfires.
-
I let it soak for three to four weeks and try to forget about it or else I'll just want to go pull it and get all antsy. The deer can take about a week in my area to show up on camera
-
Best to give it time out there so your scent is gone and the animals can adjust to you being there. Does not good to keep going in there spreading your scent around.
-
I have one I haven't checked since last Sept. :) Going to go get it in a few weeks, we will see how good that Bushnell battery life is. Just haven't had a chance to take a day to go back in and get it. Put it up during archery season and killed my bull a few days later in a different area and haven't hiked back in since.
-
I usually can't wait very long. I go a couple weeks then am back out there. Part of it may depend on how long a drive/hike.
Regarding scent...I don't do a thing to prevent scent. I pee everywhere and wear my every day shoes. I believe my scent is now part of the general area smelss and the deer don't seem to care. I have them show up within hours of me being there. Shoot, maybe they smell me and think, "Yeah, more apples with a touch of sweat!".
-
Might go back today and peek over the burm to see if the apples are gone. If not, I'll just leave it.
-
No, no, no. You need to pull the card and post a pic or two. C'mon now...leave it?
-
If the apples are there, there have obviously been no animals. Why would I mess with the card to get 345932475932465938217 pictures of bushes?
-
There could have been a bird? Who knows? Sounds like you don't have to far to go. I suppose if the apples are not hammered I may leave it alone as well. I to have had many pics/vids of moving bushes/trees. I've even got pics/vid of tail feathers from the damn blackbirds sitting on top of the camera.

Lots of pics, no animals. Looks like a few apples were missing but, I didn't count them so I don't know for sure.
-
I'm telling ya, study those pics. You can find little easter eggs in some. A bird on the wing, a snout, who knows. You don't count your apples? How do you know if they are just getting started eating them? Kidding with you of course. As you have commented you know I am in the same boat, getting started, learing some stuff, and enjoying my first trail cam out. I'm already decided I need another just to put on a different trail to see how ofent they come/go from that direction even though I already know they do 75% of the time. People have said it gets kind of addicting and they are correct. You will want to check it again and again. ALMOST as much fun as hunting. I look forward to your observations and eventual pics.

I am telling you there is a ghost taking your apples. Take the pictures to your local Ghostbuster to have them analyzed!!
-
Oh great now your gonna get the guys talking about Chuck Norris again.

angle the camera different, more of a downward direction, reduce sensitivity if possible and test it....yes crawl around ;)
