Was wondering if anyone has installed the VQ Hammer on a Remington 597. Looking to get one possible to get rid of this high trigger pull, but just want to make sure its worth the $40 or if I should just buy gas for the truck :dunno: Also is there any place to purchase locally (Tacoma) or are they all strictly offline.

Welcome to an awesome forum.
I know nothing about the 597, but you might check out this website. You should be able to find the answer there.

Thanks alot! Just realized I haven't posted prior to this really. I have bought a few things from here and each person has been great! I've looked up on rfc the 597 threads but was hoping to just have some local response. It's a great gun so far, just hates the rem golden bullets it seems, which is a common issue. Trigger pull is a bit on the heavy side so thats the only draw back I've had.

i put one on a couple 10/22s and they help out .

Bypass the VQ and go straight to the real solution:

The Jard trigger assy is what really works best. I tried the VQ hammer and extractor only to find out that it won't cock on about one out of five rounds (many others have found the same results). I ordered the Jard trigger assy (rather spendy but worth it) and the problem was solved. I bought the 2lb trigger assy and love it.
I love the 22mag and after getting the Jard trigger and trying it, I ordered one for my 597LR. I have not gotten it yet but look forward to it. Many crows around my house are waiting for me to get it.
Also: don't waste your money on a $55 scope! Step up and pay for one that is worth installing on your pea shooter!
A rim fire should equal or surpass the most expensive gun you own. Sound absurd? Think about it.... what gun do you fire thousands of rounds through on a year-to-year basis? I rest my case.

Hey Axle thanks for the link to that website. It is a bit spendy but looks like it would be worth it. I had a Savage 17hmr and the accutrigger was nice...had my pull pretty low so looking to get back to that. I had a 3x9-32 Tasco scope laying around so using it for now. Was always a good scope for me, and I don't get to shoot that often as I live on post so weekends only. Keep me updated on the Jard Inc assembly when you get it. I've heard some nice things just no one close enough to witness or get good testimony.

I've looked at that Jard trigger assembly and I have to say that paying $250 for a trigger for a $180 gun is a pretty tough sell! I wouldn't mind trying one but it would have to be pretty Earth-shattering for me to lay out that much dough for it.

Well, I did get the VTR version, so that's $330 or so from Cabelas. Comes with the collapseable stock and rail up top. But yes, $200+ is basically like buying a brand new gun lol. I've heard some good stuff with just the VQ Hammer, but also the Jard Products. Guess I may have to buy the VQ and see if it helps or just go with the Jard.

Some 597 owners have had no problem with the VQ but many have. With a failure rate to cock of 1 out of 5 :bash:, I had no problem buying a trigger assy that would work right and be the pull weight I wanted. Kind of spendy but I got what I wanted. :chuckle:
I shot several different weights of bullets and several different manufacturers' bullets and the gun did not fail to cock with the Jard trigger assy :IBCOOL:.
I expect the same results for my 597LR.

So did you buy the VQ for the 597 first Axle, or had one for a different rifle?

I first bought the VQ hammer and extractor for my 22mag but when it failed to cock, I decided to get the Jard trigger assy.
The trigger pull was rather nice with the VQ parts but I just couldn't handle the non-cocking issue. 1 out of 5 is bad odds.
