Title: Topo software question
Post by: timberghost72 on May 15, 2011, 08:56:38 PM
I bought Nat Geo topo years ago and love it. It is for windows 95, 98, 2000, and XP. My question is my laptop is Vista so is there anyway it can be installed on it? I really don't want to buy another program. I did try to install and nothing happened. Or am I out of luck?

You probably need to contact the company.  They might offer an upgrade price or something.

Won't hurt to try it?

I run it on Vista, no problem.

I am using Nat Geo Topo version 4.6.0 on my Vista laptop and it works fine. I previously had an older version of TOPO installed and that worked fine as well. The TOPO 4 just has more features.
How old is your TOPO version?

BTW, really like to use the interface between TOPO and my Garmin GPS. I can swap waypoints and tracks back and forth at will. Makes it great for logging my scouting trips.

What I am trying to ask is: I have the Topo discs and use them on my pc which has windows xp. The discs say for use with windows xp, 95, 98  NOT VISTA. I want to use the discs with my laptop which has windows Vista. I have tried to install but won't let me. Is there any way to somehow install them since the cd's are for a different operating system? Some sort of converter or trick? I know next to nothing on this kind of stuff.

What do you mean by it won't let you install them?

You can download current versions of the software here: http://www.natgeomaps.com/downloads.html (http://www.natgeomaps.com/downloads.html)

Finally, read their FAQs: http://support.topo.com/articles/9 (http://support.topo.com/articles/9)

No tricks. The Installer CD doesn't work on my Vista operating systems  :dunno: So I downloaded the free programs on National Geographic Topo site. Then I tried my other CDs and they're working now. Weird.
