>:( Rumor is that the Killnetters are going to be allowed back into the Columbia again tomorrow night at 9 PM.... apparently the Department of foolishness and greed doesn't think that the sportsman will catch their quota of fish before the run is over. Now the Killnetters get to help take the sports catch. They will have the small / take everything nets.... So much for a Spring sportsman season...

Gotta love politics :bash:

I don't mind gillnetters. But the thing is, they cut our season short because they don't know how to predict the return of springers. Now when they figure out that there is going to be a butt load coming they let the gillnetters have them.
-
I was told that they believe the run is coming to a close and that the don't expect the sportsman can fulfill their quota so they are basically having the netters fill out the sportsman's quota.
Why not let the netters have a few hours in the upper river and let sportsman have some kind of chance at the fish first.
Sportsman got screwed this year due to piss poor season. History shows us that the fish wouldn't show up that early and then they closed the river to get their escapement. Then when they exceeded the escapement, they let the netters have the fish instead.
Just stupid! Hopefully they don't screw us in the late season.

Yeah it would be a real shame to let a few extra fish up the river to spawn right WDFW :bash:

:yeah: I don't understand why they shut the season down early when they know the fish don't show up until later on. The WDFW alwasy seems to go into panic mode about the fish not coming way to early. :bash:

The Columbia is open right now. It's out of shape, and there is a lot of crap coming down it, but there where still some diehards out today.
As for gillnetters....don't get me started! As far as I'm concerned, the fish I catch (that are hatchery fish) belong to them. The fish tax they pay goes straight to the hatchery funding, as it always has. They pay to raise them so we can catch them.
As for the money that I (we all) pay for fishing licenses, and punch-cards and all the other crap this state makes me buy for my entire family...that goes to the general fund, and for all I know, it fills potholes in King County, or pays for some "clean needle" program in downtown Seattle/Tacoma so the junkies don't spread diseases to each other. Boy that's money well spent!
It would be nice to change where all our license fees go, but I don't see it happening.

What about all the money we spend on boats, trucks, motels, gas, gear, guides and tips? As sports fishers we dump 3-4 BILLION into the state economy annually. The commies might pay a small fish tax but we still put way more $$$ back into the economy. Just not enough into the political pockets.
Nothing in the state laws require fish to be managed for sport fishers. They are required to manage them for commercial harvest. nothing more.
It sucks!!

Overall the fish tax they pay isnt a drop in the bucket compared to sporties. They do get their select areas that their taxes pay for.

Really? Spawn? haha are there any wild springer left? Just asking

Hay bales sure clean up gill nets nicely, especially after they get good and soaked! Just sayin'!
