Camera check 5-21-11
The cams were a little slow this week but I did get a couple bears, a few deer and a coon on video.
A few weeks ago I put a camera up on a known bear bed but only got some deer and coyote photos. Today I took it down, only to find that a big boar had stopped by earlier this week.
In past years the bears would bed on the other side of the tree, but this year they are bedding on this side into the lower left part of the picture.
The first photo is a doe for size reference with an arrow pointing to a small knot.

Here is a pic of the bear. Notice the height compared to the deer/arrow above.

Then I got a 40 second video of him standing to scratching/scent against the tree a couple times.

I am not sure if I will put a camera here again, but I do know that I will go back and take a few height measurements.
The day before this bear came within 20 yards of the bed camera above, but did not walk in front of it. I did get 3 videos of it on one camera and 3 pics of it on another. This one is collared and has a red tag in its left ear.
Here is a video image (Bushnell) of me at the same distance for size reference.

And a video image of the collared bear.

This pic came from a Wildview cam yards away. It sure is ugly.

Man that first bear is a dandy
-
That first bear is good size. Deffinently worth keeping an eye on. Buy a tag and start planning. :chuckle:
-
Boy Billy, that first is a pig. Give him some more pounds packed on in late summer and he'd be a linebacker....
-
That is a big bear, I passed up a bear last bow season because he was to small. I have been second guessing myself but this one makes him look like a cub. Mike

I went back today and took some measurements.
The branch is right at 6 feet high and the knot just above the bears nose is at 7 feet.
It is still a good bear, but not as good as I thought.
