anybody have any tips for a rookie sturgeon fisher on the chehalis

Yeah....keep driving to the Columbia. 
Tribe has done a number on this fishery.  You can still catch a one if you work at it.  Sand shrimp and nightcrawlers used to work for me but I have pretty much given up on it.  I used to fish just above and below Friends landing.

It used to be real good fishing at night. Not much left anymore...
