Title: PRIVATE AMMUNITION SUPPLY
Post by: ICEMAN on June 03, 2008, 07:24:30 PM
Can some of you please explain in detail what is happening to ammunition and reloading components? Prices are going up (like everything else), store shelves seem to be poorly supplied. We keep hearing that about new laws, legal challenges, liberal and environmentalist pressures,  all targetting our ability to get powder, lead shot, lead bullets and other supplies. What is the deal? In your opinion, what should we be doing today, in order to preserve our rights, as well as stock up for ourselves...

I talked to the manager of Cabelas about that because the are always out of primers and some powders. What he told me is a lot of the stuff is running out do to the war. He says it will be months before things go back to normal. This is what he said to me. Whether it is true  :dunno:

Its a combination of the war, and the price of metals. Metal of all types are at record prices. Other countries, China being the major player, are going through thier version of an industrial revolution. They are using metals at such a rate that its affecting our market.
I deal with steel on a daily basis and its gone up nearly a 100% since this time last year and there is no relief in sight.  :'(

They don't need to take our guns, just control, by raising the price and
regulations of ammunition, and components, until it's priced off the market. (A
gun is worthless without ammunition).  Three or four years ago the anti's had a
big push to increase the price of all ammunition components so people would not
buy them and only buy factory ammo.  Now the price is jumping on factory  stuff.
Now control that just like the prescription drugs are controlled now.  Results-
controlling how much you can buy, how often, and cut it off completely if and
when they want.  In a few short years they have complete control and the
majority won't even realize it until it's to late. Maybe it's already started.

sad stuff. makes me want to go buy some ammo today......sounds like a plan.

my unkle (a bowhunter) said if they want to take away all guns and only allow bow hunting that wouldn't break his heart but he also said they sure as hell arent getting his guns.

i thinks that firearm owners are a strong group and controlling our ammo costs wont stop us but it will slow us down. right now gasoline is the killer.

I'm going to stock up on all reloading components.  How long do you suppose powder will last?  If I get a 20 year supply will it still be fine in 20 years?

I agree and there have been failed attempts to tax reloading components to drive the prices up. It has been a published tactic of anti-gun groups. Does anyone remember the primer scare? There was legislation to make primers with a built in expeiration period where they would go bad.
This time though, its not the case, its the price of materials to make the components.

Curly, Powder will last well over 20 years, there is still 30-06 ammo from WW2 being shot. It just has to be stored correctly.

I have some 20+ year-old blackpowder and it shoots better than anything I can buy today
