Title: Ackley question....
Post by: fireguy459 on May 27, 2011, 02:24:50 PM
I am looking for any information on reloading a .300 Ackley Imp. I have been told there are four choice between an ackley version 1, ackley version two, ackley original 28 degree and ackley 40 degree... How in the hell do you determine which one you have? the side of the barrel is stamped with .300 ackley imp? any help would be great...  i have looked at about every book in sportmans or cabelas and cant figure it out. Thanks again.

I just clicked on google and wrote reloading for a 300 ackley improved and it has some information.

It shouldn't really matter what version you have. Just use whatever data you can find for the 300 Ackley Improved, start low and work your way up. If you can't find reloading data for the 300 Ackley, then just use data for the 300 Win Mag and work your way up until you see pressure signs, or until you reach the velocity you're looking for.

Almost all the improved have the 40 degree shoulder.  You can fire form a case and measure it.  Then look up the dimensions for each one and compare.
