Do you guys know how if there is a set distance a duck blind would have to be from a road???

Thats a good question. I'd guess it depends on whether your're shooting towards the road or not. If towards the road better make it a two hundred yards at least. If away then it may not matter too much 50 yards? :dunno:
I've never seen anything in the regs. about that...

There is no distance specified by law. If you were out of the right of way for the road, you would be legal.

:yeah: At a trap range, the shot tends to land out around 90 yards. Heavy goose loads might carry a bit further. 200 yards should be enough if shooting towards the road. A couple of years ago my buddy and I asked a Game Agent about shooting from or along a maintained road. He said that they stopped writing citations for that because the judges always threw it out. He said as long as you're doing it safely, they don't care if you shoot off the Interstate Highway.

I know of no set distance a duck blind has to be from a road. It is not addressed in the waterfowl regs. You cannot shoot along or across the maintained surface. Putting your back to the road and shooting away is no problem. The state put in some blinds on private lands this past year and one of those was next to I-5.
EXCEPT IF YOU ARE HUNTING FIR ISLAND, SKAGIT COUNTY. There are a whole set of special regs for that area with $1000.00 fines if you violate.
At the Samish Wildlife Area I often set up less than 100 ft off the main road to Samish Island with no problems.

Right of way of main roads often exceed the maintained portion. Telephones poles are often in the right of way but ok to shoot there. The key is the maintained portion of any road. Depending on who you talk to the ditch is a maintained portion. No Game Agent will give you the same answer. They have great leeway on how they enforce. Error on the safety side.

I would agree on the maintained portion. Check out the county ordances in your area to see if they have any special addressed ordances with shooting in the area. I would pick an area that isn't right on the road as you may not want an audience and wether your legal or not you might get harrassed from the SP or game ward.

Yeah, that's why I said you'd be ok if you were not within the right of way.
