It's my understanding that the 100 line won't be open again this year. It's a shame but there is a lot of other ground to hunt in Winston Creek.

:brew: The elk herd in there needs a little bit of a buffer, no one likes hunting a diminished herd and to have 800 trucks racing around aint no fun either. Let those who want to hunt, strap on their boots.

I am sure that will make a lot of the guys that get drawn for cow permits angry because now they will actually have to work for their elk!

It will for sure be closed for the next 2 years. now, if they close weyerhauser as well, where will all the road hunters go? the 3000 line is open, but expect them to close it at about the 3 mile marker before hunting season.

Not trying to call anybody out, but most of the cows that I have seen shot in the Winston are within 100 yards of the road.........and there is usually a truck running with the doors open blocking the road.

I did too. And I really dont know the area at all. My buddy that was going to take me out there is going to be on his submarine at that time. So I guess Im going to have to do alot of scouting. And I'll take all the help I can from people on this site!

Good luck!

You dont really need to scout, just follow my seven simple rules and I guarantee that you will get a cow:
1. Find the traffic jam on opening morning heading into the tree farm.
2. Follow the truck traffic up into the woods.
3. Find some timber or reprod to hunt.
4. Get out of your truck.
5. Let me reiterate, get out of your truck and hit the woods.
6. Shoot an elk.
7. Let the work begin!
You will have no problem finding a cow as long as you follow these simple steps!

All kidding aside, you should tag out fairly easily as long as you dont just want to road hunt. Then again, I have seen quite a few cow shot from the road in the 15 years that I have hunted in there. Good luck!

I would prefer a walk in hunt for sure. I definatly like the gated roads. What road do I use to access the area?

Thanks for the info!

Go to http://www.metskers.com/ (http://www.metskers.com/) and buy a map for like $10 bucks.  Trust me you will want one anyways because there are a ton of roads in the farm and they dont unlock very many gates. There are several different roads in, but most people come in just South of Mossyrock or East of Toledo in the Kid Valley area.
It doesnt matter were you go in, you will get into elk.
