Caught this and wondered what the heck it was

thats a bluegill of some kind, there are a few different kinds of them.

Looks like a tasty fish to me.... :chuckle: If you filet them, scale them first then filet leaving the skin on. The skin adds a nice sweet flavor.

Shell crackers are redears, different and bigger than pumpkin seeds.

That's a big redear! We used to catch them in Indiana like that. I haven't seen one that size in about 25 years. Thanks for the memory.

Thanks for all the replies guys I just got a new house with a pond and it has a ton of bass and pumpkinseed sunfish in it thats the first sunfish i got but i can see tons of them out there and there are around 40 bass well over 5 lbs and 2 ive caught right around 10 lbs

Sounds like a nice spot. Don't shy away from thinning those pumpkinseeds out as they will restock themselves quickly. I have seen ponds that have so many of them they hardly get over four inches long. And, they are tasty.
