Just bought a boat that has an Optimax on it and was wondering if anyone can tell me what the warning light with the piston means.

I would have a technician hook up a diagonastic tool to it. Don't make the expensive mistake I made 30 miles out and smoked one of my motors. Oil injection failed on mine.

I'd be calling a qualified Mercury shop. I'd recommend Tacoma Marine. Greg Greener, owner. Master Merc Mech. Rated #1 by Merc for the Tacoma and surrounding area. I've used him and very much like and trust him.

I think I may have found the problem. When I took the cowl off I found this sensor unplugged and the wires have been pinched by the cowl latch. From what I could find online this is a common theme. Pretty sure this is the MAP sensor. Thing is that the 2 male wires are the same color and one of the female wires is a different color. May be that it doesn't matter which is plugged into which. :dunno:

Check the warranty it may still be covered.
