what do you guys do with your ivories? leave em in for the mount?.ceiling fan chain pulls?
the few elk that i have taken personally,, i foolishly gave away one pair, and the rest just sit in an old snuff can.. wish i could find something to do with em thats not tacky or gaudy..

I am saving mine for Michelle to put into LongTat's elk mount when he shoots the toothless ones.

I used probably them as zipper pulls on my hunting coats, or fanny pack, have some on a day pack as well. Have also had one made into a necklace, but I never wear it. Gave some away. Still have a quite a few just rattling a around the botttom of a mason jar in my reloading cabinet. I'd look forward to hearing what anyone else does as well.

I have a pile of them under my mounted pheasant havent quite figured out what to do with them yet
-
i thought about drillin a hole in them and putting them on a necklace with my bear claws.. i usta wear them all the time,, but i live on the port madison res and all the locals were giving me crazy looks...id really like to do something worthwhile with them..

Never shot an elk. :(
Hopefully this year though, although I doubt I'll do anything special with the teeth, I don't really care.

LOL that was funny

I had a ring and a necklace made for my wife. She wears them all th time and unfortunately there are those that don't appreciate them as much as we do. They make beautiful jewelry. If I get a chance I'll try to get a couple of pictures to post.

I gave mine to my kids and told them they had to put them under their pillows for the tooth ferry . We put ten bucks under the pillows with a note that said, " you have to use this money to help someone else" . Taught them a good lesson and still got the teeth back .

dekuma...u suck :P
the next one I shoot will have all its teeth that clearly match its spots...lol
suckling slayer out! ;)

I drilled holes through them and put them on all of the zippers on my back pack. And from the first bull I killed I found the bullet in the elk and took the empty case, bullet, and both ivories and put it in a small dome glass case and set it on the shelf to look at. And as for my dad's teeth over the years, he put them on zippers, 8 on a gun sling, and did the same thing with the dome glass on his biggest bull with a gun and has numerous other ones just laying around.
-
i like the idea of them on a rifle sling.. how did he do it? i like the whole pioneer, mountain man stuff. old leather stuff with adornment.

He drilled small holes through them and used some sort of twine he could tie and epoxy and burn so they wouldn't come off. And he fed the twine through the outter layer of the sling with a big needle so they didn't go all the way through to rub on your shoulder or coat.

Does your dad have his old fillings removed before he puts them on his zippers and such? :chuckle:

I just throw them in a box with my halibut, yelloweye and cod ear bones. If the bull is worth doing a european, I will superglue them in. I have made earrings out of them for friends but other than that I dont have much use for them.

Here's a fly rod that I built as a gift for my uncle. I inset an elk tooth into the yew wood handle.

I am Kalispel Indian and we are saving all of ours to put on my wife's dancing dress. (anyone want to donate!) in the old days certain Indian tribes measured wealth with the elk teeth dresses, if you had one that was covered in rows of elk teeth it was considered to be worth 2-3 good horses. and a mark of your man's prowess as a hunter. modern dresses are made with shells that look the same from a distance and I have seen a few made with plastic elk teeth, but we want hers to be correct.
