Title: umptanum muzzy cow tag!
Post by: rotty33 on June 14, 2011, 09:14:05 PM
This is the first time I was drawn for anything so I am excited!!  I have hunted manastash archery for 5 years now and decided to go muzzy this year. Anyone had any experience with this tag?

do you want to hunt the sage or the wooded stuff... that unit holds elk in both areas

I drew a modern cow tag in the umtamum. Mind if I watch this thread? I need to figure out access as well.

I actually like hunting the sage, feel like I can hunt more effectively that way.

I had this tag in 09.  Only Elk I came across were down past Pine Canyon.  Granted I didn't get a chance to do any scouting so I came into it blind, but still got into them.  Good luck, it was a really fun unit to hunt.

That is cool. Were there a lot of hunters, or did you feel spread out?  I am planning on scouting in August. Hopefully the roads are fairly accessable by then. I heard reports of washouts.

There were quite a few people runnin around.  I actually donned some orange because I was getting a bit nervous.  Almost got blasted head on by a guy going close to 50 on the road that runs along the top of Clemans.  Both came over a small rise at the same time, luckily he was paying attention and was able to swerve off the road.  Damn near pooped myself!  All that being said, once I got away from the roads, the numbers dropped off drastically.  Found that most were road warriors.

thanks for the advice. I will definitely look into it.  I like to hike away from the roads and get somewhere secluded.
