My son was drawn for the silver dollar youth hunt. Does anyone have any info on this hunt. He had five points.

my son drew that tag last year with 4 points, they will send you a packet of info with your hunt manager and whose farm you drew, my son dakota never got a call, the elk wouldnt come off the hanford reservation and he drew one of the good farms, the four feather ranch, he was bummed because its a long season and he never got a phone call, but doug the wdfw guy that was settn it up was able to give all the youth that didnt get a chance at a hunt all their points back which was real cool of them because they didnt have to, good luck, hopefully the elk come off the hanford reservation

Excellent hunt. We saw 40+ bulls in 1.5 days (most from a long distance). My daughter shot this nice 5 point in '08. The hunt manager Rich was very good with the kids - positive, encouraging.

Good luck to the young man! I have heard of it before. Seems like 50% of the kids drawn don't get to hunt. Kinda sucks
Very cool pic! njc89

I had not heard the part about so many not getting to hunt. I really hope it works out for your son. If the elk are there it's really unlike any other kind of elk hunting most of us can imagine. A few other points:
1) practice long range shooting. Shots can be over 300 yds. and of course most kids are not experienced with that.
2) Even though they sell hunts there, Rich tried to get both kids good bulls (the other kid on our trip got a 5x6). That said, this was not a trophy hunt. If you see a legal bull, he'll expect the kid to shoot it and not wait for a bigger one.
Best of luck.
