I bought this gun a few weeks ago and put a scope on it to working up loads(scope is for the range, not to hunt with) and started printing 1-2 inch groups at 100 yards. If this gun wasn't so accurate I would have given up on it! But now I just want it to work.
Any suggestions would be helpful.

buddy had the same problem traditions would not do anything after it was fired. they said it was a weak firing spring and sent him a new one for him to put in himself. also be carefull wth your muzzle control break action muzzle loaders have a problem with the firing pin sticking and the gun going off when the action is closed after loading it. nothing worse than 405 grn powerbelt blowing up up in your hands.

Check with Traditions.
The NW Ultilight is designed for the #11 caps. They say you are not suppose to use the Musket caps.
They have the NW ultilight magnum, which is designed for musket caps. :twocents:

Got this for my daughter. I did have one cap that poped but didn't ignite the powder. Put another cap on and it shot fine since then. :dunno: What I don't like is that we cannot use the standard brass capper for the musket caps with wings- it doesn't fit into the opening! Guess I'll have to look for a different capper.....? >:(
Went back in to Bobs to find a capper that fits..... nothing. They told me to use my fingers to put it on. :bash: Sure- I'm going to try to do that after excitedly jumping out of the truck when I see a deer, or in the snow wearing gloves of any kind, or on a follow up shot when re-loading speed needs to be 30 to 50 seconds. Not cool! >:(

I tell people and tell people about these proplems and they still buy the gun ??? I just don't understand when they can by a Knight or CVA and not have any of these proplems.The weight issue is exactly why I chose this for my daughter. I spoke to Traditions today about the issue of no musket capper that fits. They said to use fingers to put it on. >:( They said I am the first one to contact them with this problem. :ban: :mor:

Lots of bashing....to each his own. I've got one and love it....light and VERY accurate. Shot 50 yard three shot <1" groups right out of the box, under two inches at 100 yards, about three inches at 175 yards. Didn't even need to adjust the sights. As most of you do, I fully disassemble any new weapon I get looking for defects, check functionality, and give a serious cleaning. Popped a few musket caps and had the misfire problem but solved it in about ten minutes by dropping out and disasembling the trigger assembly. Tightened the hammer spring and loosening the hammer return spring and gave the sides of the hammer a light coating of Gun Butter. Problem solved....popped 15 caps in a row followed by 10 shots in a row at the range without issue. 100gr 777, 250 gr T/C Shockwave Sabots, and musket caps seem to be my best combo. Again, to each his own....this is a definate keeper in my humble opinion.

Not bashing just facts. To each there own. I almost got hurt very bad by mine and could have even had my life taken away because of a defected gun. Any gun that requires work after it leaves the factory, to do the most basic thing "fire" is junk to me.
I would agree with that. I have heard alot about the misfire but it hasnt happend to me yet. I have made no adjustments. Only cleaning it. maybe the misfires guns where part of a bad batch. Ive had 0 problems so far. got my fingers crossed.

Took it out again this weekend. Shoots very accutate but had 5 frigging caps that didn't pop! :bash: They all poped on the second hit. Trying to get help from Traditions- still.

Ive heard people are putting tiny washers behind the nipple to get it closer to the firing pin. Have you tried that yet?

I considered shimming it but decided not to because the head spacing is so tight already. I didn't want any chance of it going off when my 13 year old daughter closes it. If I knew a good machinist I would have the firing pin re-made without the bar across the front. I would have it made to fit just inside the musket nipple when struck.Took it out again this weekend.
