Title: Ouch....Slammer
Post by: chongo469 on June 30, 2011, 07:50:10 AM: So Fc and I went out on the Slammer yesterday out of Westport for the bottom fish trip.....Weather wasn't terrible, but not good either.....We started out fishing for flounder for bait and got into a bunch of them, then headed out to the Ling Cod spot...Big Lings to be had by almost all....If you were not getting sea sick , you were catching fish....many went over 20 lbs easy and we even got into a few yellow eye and 3 halibut with 2 going about 50 lbs but couldn't keep them at this time.....Cranking up those big lings from 300ft gives you a work out....I am more sore then I care to be and think I may be getting old.....We rounded out the day getting our limits of rock fish so all in all a good day.......

I had some freinds from WI> on the trip and they had a blast for sure coming back. they each caught a halibut to bad they had to trow them back!!

Which one were you?......Me and my buddy were in the cabin?.....were you the Big guy in the camo?.....Me and my buudy were the ones wearing camo rain coats....

Post by: Carnivore on June 30, 2011, 11:35:36 AM: I took a combo trip on the Slammer on Sunday. The lings were biting great, the boat limited in about an hour with the biggest at 30 lbs. The salmon fishing was slow. I caught 3 but none were keepers :'( The boat only came back with 3 Chinook, 2 Coho and 2 pinks. Its was great weather and good times and fish and chips for dinner.

hey bowhunter you could go to a river in Russia where 8 million sockeye make the journey to spawn every year :dunno: there are still fish in places where they havent been managed to extinction ;)

The Captain tried really hard to let me keep one - he measured it twice - just because I think he felt like I was really trying to get one between heaves. :chuckle: In the end the rockfish limit sufficed.

I knew FC had the ling bug. Did you guys both score?

How did the conditions compare to our first trip?

Rhett had to boot one puker out of the head while Chongo was reeling up the guy's abandoned gear and the other guy camped out under cover about half of the time. I figured the trip out yesterday was a pretty normal day since that was my average experience on the ocean, Rhett and Kyle were both calling it rough!

We really had a lot of fun and it was much better for me with my own rod and reel this time (lefty), we could have used the lings we got on our last trip as bait to catch the ones we got on the Slammer! :chuckle: :chuckle:

That's awesome! I'm stoked for you guys. And I'm glad you were more at home with your own gear! I can totally see Chongo taking care of the extra rigs (read: moving abandoned chit outta the way...) all matter of fact-like, to get down to business. :chuckle:

Post by: sebek556 on June 30, 2011, 11:21:24 PM: sounds like the last time I went out, me and another army buddy crabbed and shark fished (which for us meant killing at least 2 cases of beer) all night before, my wife was eight months pregnant the fishing was great but at the end of the day the hang over took over, I was adding to the sea level while reeling in :chuckle: wife was such a trooper though pole under her arm with 3 good size sea bass on using the rail to help hold it up and yelling at me for baiting all her hooks..

ROFL! He no sooner got it cranked up than the old guy came trucking out of the head right up to the rail and.....RAAAAaaaAAAWWWWR!!!!!!! I laughed so hard I lost a rockfish double halfway up the rail :chuckle: :chuckle: The best part was when the next wave hit that side of the boat about 5 seconds later and launched his puke all over his pant-legs :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

Post by: chongo469 on July 02, 2011, 12:52:38 PM: I kinda felt cheated this trip due to there were only 2 people blowing chunks over the side....That is almost the best part of charter fishing is watching people call Dinosaurs over the rail.....RRRRAWWWWEEERRR..........I can't wait for next year so we can go for Halibut....
