For deer and elk ill be in 667,505,518,503,501, and 520. Early archery season will be in the Packwood unit I think. The rest will be determined by how much time I have to hunt that particular day or weekend.

as a result of not being drawn, the econimy, odds of taking an elk, most of my party have electide to go see if we can find a b-foot or a wolf. everyone is buying cameras and we will be up around 166 & 162. there are no elk in the blues but a good pict of a foot might bring enough $ to fill the freezer. if we dont get ate.!

Mainly due to gas prices, I will be hunting deer as close to home as I can get, which is the Lincoln unit. Not sure about elk yet, but possibly Winston, but if I do go down there it sure won't be on a weekend.

Ukiah in Oregon and Satsop and Skok in Washington

Kind of curious - why Ukiah? Our pasture ground is not too far away - most around Battle Mountain. Used to see a lot of deer, until the elk moved in. You guys do well down there?

Probably talking about the west side.  I hunt North of Carson.  All the local archery hunters I met and talked to in the Siouxon were all great guys.  We put our camp between a couple of camps that knew each other.  They were very welcoming and helpful.  We coordinated areas so we didnt intrude on each others hunts.

A couple wardens I ran into had heard of some troubles and were asking everyone if they had any problems.

A lot of people do just drive the roads up there, and it's easy to understand why that is- it's because Weyerhaeuser doesn't let anybody in before the season to scout. So everyone is forced to just drive around trying to find a place to hunt.

There's way too much area behind locked gates in the Vail Tree Farm that there is no way a guy could scout it all on foot. That's the reason I will never hunt there. I won't hunt somewhere that I can't scout year around.

That and the fact that 98% of those who "hunt" Vail are from out of the area and hve no desire to get out of their rig except to take a leak, crap in the road, glass the same clear cut as 20 other guys or dump their trash.  It is a good place to get shot at as well.  If anyone does hunt up there DO NOT TAKE OFF YOUR ORANGE, and wear as much above the waist as you can.

My freind that I hunt with up there, caught some guys in their camp last year.
They said my freind was trespassin on private property--he was in the campsite 500yrds from 4 corners-- they said they didnt want city folks up there, and their chit was fair game.
My freind is from montana and needless to say , a butt whoopin blew in the with the wind.
He packed up and left, after a little excercise with the locals.
The camp below them had their cooking gear taken and their trailer damaged.
My brother lost some things out of his camp.
We day hunt up there, but we dont set up our camp anymore up there.

Who knows!  I'll be dragging my behind all over the Toutle carrying all the gear and calls while the Squaw has all the fun.  If she is nice and shoots one early (fat chance as she has dreams of BIG antlers) I might be able to pick up the bow for a quick cow hunt in the Winston come late season.  Then off to Chewawa for late deer.
