I have a Wyoming general elk tag and was wondering if anyone knows a good area to hunt.

Try hunting south and west of the nothwest corner of the state, and while your at it purchase a Wolf permit. Lots of them around there. Good Luck!!

Did you get the information you were after? :chuckle: I'm sure I don't have to tell you this, but, Do some research on harvest stats, populations and look at maps. There are elk everywhere in Wyoming. You never know, you may just find an area that has a lot of elk, and maybe, just maybe a few hunters ;) then you'll have your own spot. Then you can come on here and not give any information about it. :chuckle:

92 and 94.
Take the Greys River Road to get there. About 30 miles up the river once you leave the asphalt out of Alpine, turn east on Sheep Creek Rd. Once you hit the the top of the Wyoming Range you are on the border of 92 and 94 which runs east/west along S. Cottonwood Ck. It's the quickest way to get to the heart of each unit. I'd hunt north. More "remote" with less roads for the resident road hunters.
Another option is about 24 miles up the Greys, turn east up Blind Bull Ck Rd. Head to the top. There's an outfitter that has his camp at the end on the left. The road basically ends at the west border to 92. Hunt the S. and N. Horse Creek country to the east and north east. The guides area does not include this part of 92. He mainly hunts north of his camp.
Both 92 and 94 are elk hair tags so bringing home meat should be a 99% slam dunk. There are some very respectable bulls in here too.
No, I don't hunt here anymore and I won't tell you where I do.
Now, since I'm such a nice guy, you should go to the Introductions thread and spill your guts too. :chuckle:

And get in shape too. Your in the neighborhood of 9000' elevation. The air's a little thin for us sea level folks. :chuckle:

Trust me, a 50 yard dash, to get in shot position, @ 11,000 feet does take the air out :yeah:

I appreciate all of the comments, I don't Know Wyoming at all but I have cousins there and was going to hunt with them but that might fall through so just trying to get a back up plan. You guys have given me alot to go on and sense all of you have been so forthcoming, I will share if I find a good area. Thanks again.

A General elk tag is only valid in certain units. That's where I would start.

Yeah I knew that, I was just trying to find some good areas and go from there. Thanks for caring though. If they would ever send me the regs I'll be set.

Haven't got mine yet, but info is available on their website. I'll be hunting the west half again. Where do your cousins live? Maybe we will be heading for the same general area :dunno: :hello:

The last time that I looked at the regs online they said they were tentative, guess I should check it out again. My cousins live in the south west corner and I think they hunt north of there near Kemmerer.

Looks like the entire SW corner is general. I'd be looking at Bridger Teton National Forest north of Fontenelle. Down by Flaming Gorge is mostly state land. Lot of checker board in between. I'll be hunting east of the Divide. You have time to order maps, if you have an area narrowed down.

i moved away from wyoming a while back and lived in sundance since i was a boy, the northeast corner in the black hills have alot of elk, also try the bear lodge mountains which are northwest of sundance about 15 miles,
