Title: SW WA for kids
Post by: xd2005 on July 17, 2011, 10:06:43 AM
So I'm trying to figure out where to take my 2 yr old fishing (ok, so i want to go fishing and she's just an excuse) in SW WA.  :chuckle:

Places I've thought of are: Klineline, Battle Ground Lake, Silver lake.

I've been to Klineline...pretty boring I thought.

Never been to Battle Ground Lake or Silver Lake. I'm actually interested in checking out Silver Lake (figure with the perch and stuff we might get more action for my daughter). Any free access areas for bank fishing at Silver lake (Cowlitz County)?

Any other suggestions? (I'm in Vancouver)

I see Silver Lake has a WDFW area, so maybe that will be where I head out to. Still would love ideas!

The WDFW area at Silver Lake has a dock that you could fish from, but I think you'd be better off fishing elsewhere.  Maybe try the dock for a while if it isn't too crowded.  People do well from shore along the highway past the boat launch.  There are also resorts on the lake where you can fish from their docks: Silver Lake Motel & Streeters.........I'm not sure if they charge to fish from their docks; I know you can also rent boats from them.

Thanks for the info on Silver Lake. I really need to get up there sometime.

The daughter's being cranky today so I think we're going to hit up Lacamas/Round Lake and see how that goes. She could probably care less, but I really want to catch some fish (was up at Rock Creek in Skamania County last weekend and caught a bunch of small trout that put me in the mood).

It's a bit of a drive but I took my daughter who was 4 at the time up to Council lake last summer camping for a couple days and we had a blast!  She caught a ton of trout out on the inflatable raft... to the point where she actually got bored with fishing (imagine getting bored of catching fish?)  never thought it was possible. We had the best luck trolling a black woolly bugger behind the boat in the afternoon/evening.  Caught so many fish that the hook actually broke off of my one and only booger and ended our fishing for the day. We also made a hike up the trail the leads out of the sw corner of the campground and loops up to a sweet view of the lake and Mt Adams.  We ran into a couple patches of snow along the way which made for some great fun. Had a snowball fight and did some belly sliding. Had such a good time that I am pretty sure it will be an experience neither one of us will ever forget. Good luck, hope you find some good fishing!
