So my Dad and Uncle have been planning a trip to go to Alaska since last year. They got a bunch of guys together and got everything planned out. I told them early on that I wouldn't be able to make it. Due to money and time constraints. Their plan was to leave on Sat and come home the following Sunday. I called my cousin last Thursday and he informs me that one of the guys had to back out and that there was an opening. I have always wanted to go to Alaska, I just haven't been able to. Well I get a hold of my Uncle and he confirms that they had a guy back out at the last min and his place is already paid for, so they have room. I called the wife and discuss it with her. She says if you can find flights and use the airline miles then I don't see why not. So that's exactly what I did. I was able to book a flight with the guys who where leaving early on Sat and a flight home on Tuesday the 19th. Game on. Come to find out that either the day we got there or the day we started fishing the fish count entering the river went from 5-7000 fish a day to 230,000 fish in a day. Holy cow was the fishing hot. Plus I don't know if I've ever seen so many people fishing on one river in my life. We had all 15 people tagged out with their 3 fish in about 2-3 hours. I just wish I could of stayed up there. Oh well at least I got to go. Here are a few pictures of our trip.

man looked like some good fishing and weather. You wont forget that trip because it will be burning inside to get back up there.

Yeah we had a great time. I just found out that they are upping the limit to six fish per person. So wish I was still there. When i talked with my cousin they said they slayed them today. Fish on every third cast, and they were all big ones to. :bash: Why did I have to come back so soon.

Went last year, and had a awsaome time! Went halibut fishing a couple days w/ back to back #85's. Then at night(12-1am) i would go to the Kenai and get my limit(3) in about an hour.
Looks like a great time, anyone that can get away, should try it at least once!

Looks like a Hell of a time

Glad you had a great time- it is a fun - but crowded place. I ran those areas for 10 years- miss it for sure, especially this time of year... Love those Greenie Backs... The second run of Sockeyes is the very best. Bigger fish and waaaaaaayyy more plentiful than the first run. The confluence area gets hit hard by shear numbers of people. My favorite walking place is either way up the Russian or down along the Kenai under the power lines... Alot of folks don't realize it but these fish run the line of water a couple feet off shore, too many people try wading out and causes the fish to go deeper. We would walk the river and had days of C & R 100 reds on 8-10# fly rods.. Oh - I miss it.... We normally didn't keep any as we were already allotted 55 Reds via dip netting that lasted my family and friends ogles of Salmon for the year..
-
Glad you were able to go. I hope to make it up one of these days.

i love that area late august. not to many tourists, but plenty of brown bears and bows. ;)

What a great trip

Thanks guys. I had a blast. I guess they went out on the halibut charter today. My cousin told me that on their boat they caught somewhere between 50 and 60 fish. It sounds like they didn't get any over 25 lbs but had a hell of a time with so many fish. Sounds like they might have been catching and releasing until later in the day hoping to catch some bigger ones.

My son, teacherman for those of you who know him, is fishing on the kenai right now. Staying in a motor home and having to fish all day. Poor guy.
