anyone shooting this ammo? i just picked up a box to try this year for bear. and was curious how they held up.
not that it completely matters. im sure they will do just as good as any other quality bullet. but i thought it would be nice to hear some opinions :dunno:

thats all I will shoot out of my guns as far as killing game .... The SST is still the same hornaday bullet but the only differance is they have now added the poly tip ...SST is a solid base bullet so it hits hard and up ends game ...love them ! :twocents:

Pretty solid bullet. I have loaded them before but none of my guns really loved them. They shot good but nothing great in several of my guns. Only seen deer killed and they worked just fine.

I think he ment base :dunno:

No worries if you look he said "bass" :chuckle: I had to do a doubble take as well. If I was nice I would fix it :chuckle: Let him have his solid bass bullets :chuckle:

The SST is a ballistic tip bullet, the "skin" is thinner thus when the red tip gets pushed back into the bullet it expands or explodes and causes alot of trauma to the game. They are not my choice for heavy game or shoulder shots on tough animals. They are very accurate and do well on deer just be careful. I like and use the Hornady Interbond bullet, similar in design but with a thicker jacket and bonded to the core so not as likely to come apart. I found they penetration better and they have the same ballistics.
All just my opinion and from experiences from bullets I have recovered from animals that I and my hunting partners have recovered.

those were the comments i was leaning towards getting.
i shot half the box this morning and they are pretty accurate out of my rifle. and i actually recovered one from the stupid i used to hold my targets. i would say it was 80% intact
i have never shot a animal with a ballistic tip round. but i have hunted with them a couple times with different calibers. i have always used federal fusions, or just your average soft point rounds...and i cant say there were nice to the deer i shot.

I shoot em out of my .338 and have killed 3 elk with them. I have yet to recover one from anything I have shot but everything I have shot hit the ground hard and was graveyard dead right there. Yes quite accurate out of my rifle as well. :twocents:
