I am having a good friend create a custom load for my son in 30-30. Managed recoil loads are out of stock everywhere. I need your info and suggestions for powder load and bullet. I would like Nosler Accubond but not sure how those would do in a reduced recoil load. I do love what they do in the 165gn .308 version though :tup:
What say you?

I’d go with a 150g standard cup and core bullet. Premium bullets are not needed at 30-30 velocities.
I like Ramshot X-term and Speer hot core for the 30-30 but I don’t make reduced recoil loads.

Found these 2 loads on ChuckHawks. Thoughts? Also, what is an FP bullet as mentioned?
.30-30 Winchester - 100 grain FP bullet, 15.0 grains of SR 4759 powder, CCI 200 primer, Winchester case. MV 1834 fps in 24" barrel. MAP 23,400 CUP. (Based on the Hodgdon Data Manual, 26th Edition.)
.30-30 Winchester - 150 grain FP bullet, 17.0 grains of SR 4759 powder, CCI 200 primer, Winchester case. COL 2.550". MV 1794 fps in 24" barrel. MAP 35,600 CUP. (Based on the Hodgdon Data Manual, 26th Edition.)

FP = Flat Point

FP = Flat Point

Any thoughts between the 2 loads? I have to think the first would be lighter recoil but a step down in performance as well

H4895 is good powder for reduced loads. Hodgon probably lists that powder for some 30-30 loads.
I don't think pointed bullets are a good idea for 30-30 (assuming it is a lever action). You don't want a pointed bullets stacked back to back in a tube magazine.

Reduced load 30-30 (2000fps)
125gr bullet-27.2gr H4895
130gr bullet-26.0gr H4895
From the Hodgdon website under Youth Loads.

Here's what I load for my 70 year old Winchester. Hornady 150 grn, RN 33.5 gr. BL-C(2) they run about 2000 fps and in my rifle is very accurate. I had a 10 year old shooting it with no problems.

But, is your 10 year old 7 years old and 45lbs?

What kind of gun are you shooting first? Like said above don't put accubonds in a tube magizine

I would try these:

They are safe for tube magazines.

I load 135 gr FP's for practice in my wife's gun. I use 4895 powder.
The Leverevolution bullets are great pointed bullets for a 30-30. Only ones I know of actually.
The 150gr Leverevolution bullets have about the same recoil as my reloads.
The wife is comfortable with them.
