Im new to hunting in washington state and the site.. I was gonna try swakane gmu this year.. i was wondering if there are any elk out their and how are the numbers.. any suggestions on the eastside for the chance large bull without driving to the moon and back?? :dunno:
-
Pretty much all of eastern Washington is spike bull only OTC unless you go to the northeast corner. The swakane might have an elk in it somewhere....that's a big maybe.
-
All I can say is if you can't get a shot at a monster bull in the Swakane unit.....then you aint much of a hunter! Why do you think it is any elk???? It is because there are WAYYYYY too many elk in the unit......and way too many MONSTER BULLS! So like I said, you should have No problem harvesting a really good one! Good luck!!
-
Very few elk. Void of elk may be a better term.
Don't waste your time, really. There are a whole lot better options for you much closer to your home.

Why do you always give away all my honey holes? :hunter:

What can I say...I love seeing people that give limited effort to obtain their goals!!! LMAO

what year did you graduate remington 300 mag, I am the same age and from cashmere? Can't tell by your pic.
-
Fan82, in all seriousness, I grew up in the unit, have hunted it for 30 plus years, probably seen elk tracks about a half dozen times, always singles. Not really an elk unit. There may be a few very small holes with elk but usually only the locals know them and they will not tell. I would go elsewhere, oh wait, I do hunt elsewhere. Just an honest opinion.

thanks guys ive been tryin to plan a deer and elk hunt all in one and was hoping i could get just more than a spike with a gmu im familiar with.. western washington seems to be covered with that sea of orange everyone talks about and this year i dont have the time for a special permit hunt... Any suggestions at this point is something im always greatful for.. well i guess its 50/50 at this point.. its hard for me cause i hunt alone cause i dont know very many people yet and the ones i do dont hunt.. how lame is that... :dunno:
-
What weapon you using? You meantioned a sea of orange, which would imply you are talking rifle. To my knowledge there are no units you can hunt elk and deer at the same time with a rifle.. I think with your first question and this you might want to read the regs a little better :dunno:

im sorry i figured since i choose to bow hunt and bear season overlaps that i had too.. just wanted to be safe not reemed by haters that live to nagg... :hello:

not nagging but you should probably state What weapon you use. When you talk about orange I assumed that you were a gun hunter. Thats why you should never ass u me

Is this a joke? If not someone needs read regs. If you are familiar with a gmu you should at least know what kind of game is there, and when you can hunt them. If you want a big bull tag start putting in for permits like the rest of us. IMHO if someone dosen't have time for a draw hunt then they really don't have time for a general hunt. :twocents:

No, No, about half way up there is a spring, kinda a small lake, use pickles on the shady side, thats where them fishes they like to lay there.
