Title: Wallowa lake

heading down there this weekend for joseph days and bringin the boat to do a lil fishin. I know the kokanee fishing there is amazing but I have no idea how to fish for them. So I'll probly just stick to rainbows. Anyone know a honey hole there to get some big ones? And what baits work best in a deep clear lake like that? Anything helps guys! I just want to make sure I can hook some fish for my 8 yr old nephew and 7 year old niece to reel in. I don't really like to use powerbait. Haha. Thanks guys!

 Very easy lake to fish, even without a boat. Pautzkie's on the bottom will nail some nice rainbow's in the 2-3lb range.

i thought about trolling. we have an electric troller motor. whatever works best!

well if you want to catch kokanee, get a wedding ring and troll the middle of the lake. an btw ive never caught one unless the sun is shining

do you need one of those big flashers for those? Are they biting this time of year?

Hi Maverick, use a wedding ring set-up with a rubber snubber.  Use whole kernal corn and live maggots.  Fish on the South end of the lake right off the South boat ramp and troll around the shore line.  Use your fish finder to see what depth of water they are in.  It's been pretty cool over there so I'm guessing 30-40 feet?????  Good luck and enjoy the scenery over there.  John

Well I guess I didn't update this after the trip. The night we decided to leave the boat trailer lights decided to crap out on us. We fished from shore and caught a bunch of little rainbows on power bait. Were going again this year and were going to try taking the boat again. Wed really love to catch a kokanee.
