Title: Kuiu Icon 6000
Post by: Bearhunter on July 27, 2011, 12:38:07 PM
Pretty excited as I am waiting for an Icon 6000 with the Carbon fiber frame!!!  Pricey but Im going to sell a couple other packs to justify it.  The new pack will be my go to pack for my 12 day Alaska Bush Moose hunt, and from there to the Backcountry of Western Montana for 10 days of chasing Rut crazed NASTY bulls!!!!  Cant wait to put the pack to the test of torture, will take lots of pics and write a review when returning to reality.... Hope to catch a bunch on film as well!

It's an awesome pack, I had one for a few weeks but had to sell it because the waist belt was to big. The pockets and layout are going to spoil every other pack for you after you see and get used to all the functions. Jason knocked it out of the park. As soon as they offer a smaller hip belt I'll be in line again.

I have been reading that smaller framed people have troubles with the hip belt, Im sure at a 36 Ill be fine....?  Did you feel the 6000 was compressable enough to say day hunt for deer with then pack a whole boned out mature muley in, Im sure it would be as my Badlands 2200 is capable of doing that.  Dan I work my arse off all year for hunting season and take every last hour of vacation time for it (which my wife and kids are getting tired of...) and buy and sell all year from Craigslist to fund these dam expense habits we have haha!!

Way to go - that's the way to do it.  I'm phenomenally unlucky in the draws or I might be doing something similar.  Oh well, more points for next year.

I have a Mystery Ranch and the small waist belt is almost too big so I was kind of concerned about the icon, as well.

I just received mine last week. I did the same thing, sold some other packs to pay for this one. Extremely comfortable and very light weight. It compressed down to very small so yes this can be a daypack as well as a meat hauler. I plan on using it as my main pack for pretty much all my hunts. At least 1500 of the cubic inches is in the top below the lid that expands up so it does not look for feel like a 6000 ci pack when you have it on. Have only tried it out briefly but looking forward to using it in the next few weeks.

I'd be inclined to buy one if the had they same style gun carrier as the Eberlestocks.

I was on the fence about that too as I just got rid of an eberlestock. One option is to buy the eberlestock rifle scabbard and clip it to the pack. There are a lot of clips and tie points that it could be done pretty easily.

Yeah I too sold off all my packs to get an ICON 6000. Kind of scrambling to find one now for hunting season, since the Icon did not fit. Wamuledeer is right on by saying it compresses down enough for a day pack. The pack it's self is about 4500 with the top collar under the lid big enough for about 1500 cubic inches more making it 6000. There's plenty of room for a deer, it's got a better hauling system then the 2200 in my opinion too. It keeps the weight closer to your back! You'll love it, still pretty bummed mine did not fit right. Like I said it will spoil you. Good luck in AK.

the scabbard on the eber packs is handy, no doubt, but its kind of their downfall for real heavy packing. try using the corral gunslinger on really any pack, ive had great luck with this setup
