I'm looking to get a good backpack, Camelbak, combo for hunting and hiking but I wouldn't know the first thing about what brand or kind to look for. Anybody know of a good one?
-
Camelbak Motherlode.
It can fit a bunch of stuff, but can still be used as a day pack. It's a tough pack.
-
Camelback has a trizip....awesome way to stuff a bunch of stuff in it. But the camelback reservoir isn't my favorite. It always tastes like plastic no matter what you do. Try a platypus one instead!
-
Good info, thank you guys! I was hoping to get one for bear hunting this August that I can get a lot of use out of.
-
Badlands day pack
-
What is your budget? The Badlands is a good choice as is the Eberlestock X2.
-
Well I saw one that a store employee said was a really good, the only name I saw on it was Camelbak, but it was $160.00. I didn't think I'd have to spend that much for a good one. Where would I find a Badlands pack?
-
Most any sporting goods store - Cabelas, Sportsman's Wharehouse, etc. However, $160 is probably the minimum you'll pay for an Eberlestock or Badlands. For me the Eberlestock fit a bit better but it's personal preference. Both are good packs. I own a Badlands Superday and sold another one that I had to someone.
I'm running a Mystery Ranch now, but the price of those things will make you poop your pants.

I have just started running the badlands packs. They have been great!
-
Well I will be making a trip to Cabela's fairly soon, Ill have to see if they have some of the packs you guys have mentioned. That's a lot of good info to run with! I just shot a bear yesterday :IBCOOL: and I think the Camelbak would be a useful thing to have on that hunt.
-
I have a badlands 2800. Big from a day pack but works real well. I have had it loaded with 50-60 lbs numerous times and it hauls the weight very well. Compresses down well also for day use.
-
Yeah the Badlands sounds like the popular choice!
-
I love my Eberlestock J34, used it on backcountry hunts and day hunts, built in rifle scabboard is great when you get something down. They also have there own water blatters 2L/3L You really need the three liter by the way, just my 2 cents.
-
I actually like the 2L water bladder but also a small water bottle. I've popped a bladder before and had no water. But if you're not too far from the road you can get away with it.
-
Yeah I usualy drink a gallon of water a day so I'd probably opt for the bigger one but i'll have to see whats at Cabelas..
-
Badlands makes good packs.
-
Depends how much stuff you want to carry. For my daypack I use GI Issue Dester Camo Cordura Camelbak. If I need to carry more gear I have a Cabela's. Which one I take depends if I want to carry my spotting scope, decoys, extra clothing etc... :twocents:
-
Id spend the extra bucks and get urself a badlands 2200 (or something on those lines) has a camel back hydration system (gotta pay seperate for the bladder) and has a meat shelf if your gonna use it for hunting. No need to have 2 or 3 different packs. I payed 220.00 for mine.

Today I was at Cabela's and I looked at all of their packs. Didn't see a Badlands with the Camelbak in it and I saw Eberlestock I liked a lot but was really expensive. In the end I got a Cabelas that really did what i needed it to do size and space wise with the Camelbak, and it was a really good buy. That store has everything!
