I AM HAVING TROUBLE GETTING ANY OF MY SCOPES TO MOUNT ON MY NEW REMINGTON 700 VTR. ALL OF MY SCOPES ARE 50MM OR LARGER BELL SO I NEED HIGHER MOUNTS TO HAVE ADEQUATE CLEARANCE BETWEEN THE BARREL AND THE SCOPE. THE PROBLEM IS WHEN I TRY TO BORE SITE OR ZERO MY POI IS WAY WAY TO LOW. I TRIED USING TAPE TO SHIM UP THE REAR MOUTING AREA BUT I AM STILL TO HIGH FOR THE DARN ADJUSTMENT RANGE OF THE TURRET. I BOUGHT THIS GUN TO USE FOR COYOTE HUNTING AND FOR MY SON TO DEER HUNT WITH. I ANTICIPATED USING THIS FOR LONGER RANGE HUNTING LIKE IN EASTERN WASHINGTON THUS A BIGGER HIGHER POWER SCOPE. ANY SUGGESTIONS ON HOW TO FIX THIS. DIFFERENT MOUNTS? DIFFERENT SCOPE? I WOULD APPRECIATE ANY FEEDBACK ON ANYONE THAT HAS OWNED ONE OF THESE AND WHAT SET UP YOU MAY HAVE HAD SUCCESS WITH. I HAVE SEVERAL CHEAP SCOPES NOW AND SINCE I HAVE SPENT MY WAD ON THE RIFLE AND A BLACKHAWK ADJUSTABLE STOCK I AM GOING TO HAVE TO WAIT ABOUT A YEAR TO DROP ANY SERIOUS MONEY ON DECENT OPTICS.

Weird. High Leupold rings should work fine on a VTR.

something is either up with your mounts or your optics. Maybe a deformity of the mount or it isnt settling down apropriatly. my may want to try to continue to shim with a trimmed piece of soda can, but that will put stress on the scope tube. I would change it out with another scope, if it then zeros better, you know its the scope, if not... then you know it is at least the mounts, maybe the scope and mounts.
hopefully it isnt somethign like a poorly machined action. :sry:
"several cheap scopes"
what is a cheap scope to you? are we talking NCstar/bsa cheap, or bushnell cheap?
since you have several, you could sell some of them and scrounge up the change for a nicer scope and mounts.

You could look into a 20moa base. If your scope has ennough adjustment. Egw makes a pretty good one. I have it on my 300rum and works well.

I have the EGW 20moa base and Warn rings on my Remington 700 SPS Varminter. I am able to use low rings with my 44mm objective scope. Would have to switch to med. for 50mm.

Really strange, I have a VTR with 50mm scope on high rings and I do not have this problem. Try a different set of rings or a different scope. If that doesn't help it could be the rifle (bent barrel?). I have seen a couple times on service weapons barrel is bent from abuse and the thing would shoot so far left or right that even with the sights adjusted all the way over it was hitting a target on another lane.

Let's start with the mounts.....what are they? Take your scope and place a mirror against the objective lens, move the adjustments until the hairs line up. You are now at zero on the scope. You also confirmed the scope does or does not move. If it does move. We need to look at the bases.
