Title: Wenatchee River Chinook Fishing
Post by: WAmuleyHunter on August 03, 2011, 08:24:38 PM
Hey guys just curious if anyone had ever fished the wenatchee river way back when it used to be open for salmon fishing and or if you have got a chance to fish it since it opened.  I would love to give this a try.  Any information on locations and tactics would be greatly appreciated.  Whether sharing on this or in a PM.  Thanks guys.  And hows the salmon fishing been around wenatchee area in the columbia? been out of the area for a bit.

Thanks.

Garrett

Fish are in below wells dam.  Check the counts at the dam and flow rate and go fish it

I fished the wenatchee opening day with only one solid bite. No hook set. We drifted from Cashmere to Confluence. The river was flowing pretty fast so I was tough to fish. Nothing really special on techniques... Plugs and Spinners is about all that we tried. We talked to the fish counter for WDFW and they didn't count any caught... Pretty slow. They are in there, we saw a few roll by sleepy hollow. Give it time they will be ready to catch soon.

I've fished it every day its been open with not even a bite yet.

The river is high and fast. Its tough fishing.

Be EXTREMELY careful because the yellow jackets are out in force on the beaches. I got lit up once already. Also bring bug spray if your not in the direct sun for the mosquitoes

tight lines

Hooked 2 last night.....lost both.....Water is still way too cold! They are in the river but are just not aggressive enough yet to take lures real well! Now, if you could drift eggs it would be a different story! With this week being as hot as it is and next week being hot to it should turn on any time!
I fished it back when I was a kid up til 1995, the last year it was open for springers....used to be absolutely awesome!! This summer run will be too once they start biting!

I fished Wells Wed. the 27th in a Yellow boat (Brads Baits Resreach Team)on the far side.Don siad it was pretty rolly on Tuesday but it was pretty good Weds.  We got 14 sockeye by 1:00. Lost quite a few. Had to quit so Don could take the Team Berkly guy's out. Great time. Using a Brad's Super Bait Cut Plug 3.0 Blacjack!

Sounds good! Glad someone is hooking them! I am off sun-wed this coming week so I will probably spend some time on the river... Thanks for the info.

Resurrecting an old thread, I know. Just curious how the fishing on the Wenatchee River has been. I'm in town for a couple days and hoping to give it a try. Anywhere a bank fisher can get out there or is a boat needed?

Thanks.

I havent personally fished it, I've been fishing the Columbia.  I heard at Hooked on Toys someone pulled a 53lb King from the Wenatchee.  Just a rumor.  I really havent heard much else about it.
