Post by: TW GUIDES on August 06, 2011, 10:31:54 PM
I am thinking of buying one but don't know allot about them. The one I am looking at is 2008 CREW used with 1900 hours on it. Thanks is advance for your opinions.

What do you want to know about them?  I own one they are great.  1900 hrs is a lot for an 08, the price would have to be right.

I used to own five years. I suggest NOT BUY IT. Cuz I sold it all.  Not worth it.

What didn't you like about them? So far it seams to be a very useful tool.

If you have a place where you can ride it and use it for what it's intended there is no better hunting vehicle out there.

A buddy of mine has family with many thousand acres in Montana, when we went back there a few years ago for a spring turkey hunt we used theirs. They seem to be a pretty good tool. This one had the removable hard doors, wipers, and a heater. The rancher said he did a lot of research before buying and said the Ranger could not be beat ( this was four years ago). They go almost anywhere, they used it for herding cattle, running fences and building fence where the truck could not go. I agree 1900 hours is a lot though.

I have one and will have it this weekend near some of your property if you want to go for a ride. PM me and we can work out the details. I would highly recommend them. They are pricey but bullet proof and the best riding side by side out there with lots of power. I have a bunch of accessories that came with mine that I never use. If you buy one let me know. Its a lot of stuff a ranch could use like boom sprayers, tool boxes, cargo racks, etc.

My friend has one and we hunt whitetails every year in Idaho.  In Idaho there is a lot of National Forest that has gated roads which are legally accessable by atv or dirt bike as long as they meet the required width.  I think it is 48in max and the 08 ranger is 60in wide.  I would find myself waiting for him everytime we were meeting up.  Always had to improvise around the gates and his had 2 flat tires and the 4wd went out.  Just a disaster of a year.  So unless your driving on open range and not worried about hauling a 1200lb machine around that is basically twice as expensive as a great hunting quad....go head.

I have 2 friends that have had 3 between them. One sold his for a song just to save $, the other sold them and moved to the cab over mini trucks. The ranger is sweet untill it goes "clank" which seems to be reasonably often.

Alot of friends have them in AK, they do almost everything except narrow trails.....  Go through nasty stuff better than an ATV but not as well as an Argo...  They like them alot.  And hauling a Moose out isn't a problem...

it is what I would own if I was in Idaho or Montana trapping...i had the 700 quad and loved it,I also loved pulling other quads out that didnt make the grade on runs, the suspension is awesome

Thanks so much for all of your advice. I am big on not leaving established roads so the size is not a factor and most of our properties are close to the house so I will rarely have to haul it. I like the size for hauling around the family. There are six of us so its full. It would be used mostly for scouting and misc work. Hard to decide.
